We are an established and growing accountancy practice based in Shirley, and we are looking for a motivated Bookkeeper to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with experience in practice bookkeeping, looking to work in a supportive and flexible environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing accurate bookkeeping services to a portfolio of clients across various industries, assisting in the preparation of VAT returns, and supporting the wider accounts team.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for multiple clients
Process and reconcile bank transactions, sales, and purchase ledgers
Prepare and submit VAT returns in compliance with current HMRC regulations
Liaise directly with clients to request information and resolve queries
Assist with management accounts and year-end accounts preparation
Use cloud-based accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
Support clients with bookkeeping queries and software use where needed
Maintain excellent communication and relationships with clients and team members
Requirements:
Essential:
Minimum 2 years' experience in a bookkeeping role, preferably within an accountancy practice
Strong knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping and VAT
Proficiency with accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
Ability to manage multiple client accounts and meet deadlines
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Desirable:
Experience with cloud-based systems and apps (e.g. Dext, Hubdoc, etc.)
Familiarity with Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance
