We're Little Bird Told Me, a British boutique toy brand based in West Yorkshire, designing beautifully crafted, screen-free toys that spark imaginations and make perfect gifts for babies and toddlers. Our products include traditional rocking horses, baby walkers, ride-on toys and pull-along toys - all designed in house and made in China.

We're a small friendly team with an international presence. Our toys are sold across the UK and internationally, both B2B (domestic and EU trade partners such as gift boutiques, department stores, web retailers, also international distributors) and B2C via our eCommerce website (selling to the UK, EU, USA, and beyond) and Amazon UK storefront. We ship from our UK warehouse and sometimes direct from the factory in China, and we operate in multiple currencies.

The role is varied and rewarding and is ideal for someone with strong Xero skills and a good understanding of international ecommerce and VAT.

The position is flexible, but ideally, we'd love someone who can spend part of the week in our (dog friendly!) office to stay connected with the team and business processes.

What you'll be doing:



You'll be responsible for managing day-to-day bookkeeping tasks across multiple channels and currencies, with support from the directors.

Key responsibilities include:

Keeping everything shipshape in Xero: recording purchases, sales, payments and reconciling accounts. Handling multi-currency bank reconciliations (GBP / EUR / USD), including Stripe, Amazon, PayPal and petty cash. Categorising and processing consumer orders from WooCommerce, ensuring VAT is correctly applied by country (we use MyWorks software integration - this does the heavy lifting). Reconciling Amazon marketplace transactions - sales, fees and settlements, ensuring VAT fees are processed accurately. Processing domestic and international trade (B2B) sales, checking VAT treatments are accurately recorded. Helping keep trade customers up to date on payments and chasing where needed (with friendly persistence!) Running VAT Reports and submitting VAT returns (UK VAT, EU VAT, EU One Stop Shop OSS). Assisting with payroll and pension contributions. Collaborating with the Directors on monthly management accounts and reporting. Supporting with year-end prep and liaising with our accountants, as necessary.
Some of our processes are integrated or automated - so while it's a varied role, it's not overwhelming. We just need a sharp mind to keep it all accurate, compliant, and ticking along nicely!

What we're looking for:



Proven bookkeeping experience - ideally in a retail / product-based or ecommerce business. Solid working knowledge of Xero (this is a must!) Good understanding of VAT (including EU VAT and the OSS scheme). Confidence working with online systems and platforms like WooCommerce, Stripe, Klarna, Amazon Seller Central, etc. Strong reconciliation and reporting skills. Super organised with eagle eyes for detail. Friendly, proactive communicator who's happy to build good relationships with our trade customers.
