We are a well-established independent building company based in Little Hoole, Preston, and we also operate a beef-fattening farm on the same site. Following the retirement of our long-standing Office Administrator and Bookkeeper we have been relying on temporary cover and we're now seeking a permanent team member to combine both roles. You'll support the smooth day-to-day running and financial management of our construction/property arm and our farm operation.
Role Summary:
This part-time, office-based position suits an organized professional with strong bookkeeping experience across multiple enterprises. You'll carry out administrative duties, manage office operations, and lead all accounting functions--including Sage, invoicing, payroll and liaison with external accountants--for both companies.
As the directors and managers are usually out working on site, autonomy is essential. The candidate will be able to make the office their own.
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative Duties:
Oversee smooth office operations: supplies, filing, correspondence
Professionally handle phone and email enquiries for both businesses
Schedule appointments and coordinate site/farm communications
Maintain digital and physical document management systems
Property & Farm Support:
Track utility bills, tenant details, communications& property maintenance.
Assist farm management with animal records and movements

Bookkeeping & Finance:
Maintain accurate financial records for two separate ledgers in Sage and Excel
Create, send and track all sales and purchase invoices
Monitor cash flow
Liaise with external accountants and provide documentation for both year-end and compliance
Prepare and process payroll for construction staff and co
Assist with year-end procedures and any HMRC or audit queries
Required Skills & Experience:
Proven office administration and bookkeeping experience
Proficiency with Sage (essential)
Strong competency with Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office
Excellent organisational, multitasking and communication skills
Familiarity with payroll processing (preferred, training can be provided)
Ability to work independently and manage time across varied responsibilities
Desirable:
Experience in construction/property and/or agricultural sectors
Payroll experience
Full driving licence (rural location; public transport is limited
)
