Job Description

About Sandford Orchards

Sandford Orchards is an independent, family business based in the heart of Devon. We produce all our ciders using freshly pressed juice from locally grown Devon cider apples, many from orchards that have been nurtured for generations. Working from our restored 1930s cider works in Crediton, we blend time-honoured methods with modern equipment and creative thinking to craft ciders that are both rooted in tradition and alive with character. We take pride in every stage of the process--from orchard to glass.

The Role

This is a highly creative and practical role, ideal for someone who wants to be hands-on in every stage of the cider-making journey. From fermentation to final blend, your work will help define the quality and consistency of our ciders across our core range and special releases. It's an environment that demands strong communication skills, methodical discipline and real-time problem solving.

Key Responsibilities

? Blending our products to meet defined flavour profiles and maintain batch consistency.

? Managing and blending ciders from multiple vintages, apple varieties, vats and oak barrels.

? Managing successful fermentations.

? Operating a variety of process equipment including pumps, cross flow filters, and CIP (clean-in-place) systems.

? Processing apples during harvest season, including operating the apple press and managing fruit intake.

? Conducting regular lab analysis to monitor cider health and quality.

Maintaining records using brewery management software and adhering to traceability standards.

? Cellaring duties including bulk liquid transfer, cleaning and equipment maintenance.

? Following and contributing to hygiene, safety, and quality assurance protocols.

? Supporting the production team in packaging and quality control.

Preferred Experience & Qualifications

? Experience in cider making or a similar environment (brewing or winemaking).

? HACCP Level 3 food safety qualification (or willingness to obtain).

? Practical knowledge of fermentation, blending, and liquid handling.

? Experience using pumps, CIP systems, and brewery management software.

? Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.

? A hands-on attitude and a desire to play a vital role as part of a close-knit team.

What We Offer

This is a rare opportunity to join one of Britain's best and most respected cider companies in a role that is as creative as it is technical. You'll be part of a passionate and growing team, working at the forefront of modern cider making, while staying true to centuries of tradition. In-house training will be provided to support your ongoing development, along with a personal cider allowance to help you enjoy the fruits of your labour. For those needing to relocate, support may be offered to the right candidate. At Sandford Orchards, we're committed to growing sustainably--both as a business and as a team--and we're looking for someone who shares our values and wants to grow with us.

To Apply: Please send your CV and a short cover letter to cider@sandfordorchards.co.uk. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. If you're passionate about craft, fermentation, and the future of British cider, we'd love to hear from you.
