We are seeking an Area Organiser to recruit, organise and work on a time-defined project to support our campaign.



The project is a specific intervention designed to 'connect' with migrant workers in the way they self-organise and to build a UNISON response firmly within the best of UNISON's established organising, democratic, campaigning and casework activities. A stronger race equality culture and practice in UNISON with more Black staff and reps and evidence of the union's capacity to make bold and decisive interventions in pursuit of equality



The successful candidate will be responsible for the increase in migrant worker membership, ensuring enhanced participation and influence within UNISON as evidenced by number of accredited reps and migrant workers holding elected office. Secure an enhanced public and political profile of Migrant Worker rights through a powerful self-organised voice as evidenced by policy gains, and bargaining gains at commissioner and employer level.



The successful candidate will bring their experience and skills to the role and be able to develop and deliver recruitment and organising initiatives and campaigns in our branches, The Area Organiser will train and develop stewards, undertake case work, advise, support and mentor branch officers and stewards in representation and negotiation.



You will have excellent presentation skills and communication skills, both face-to-face and on paper.



Your office will be in Glasgow. You will need to be able to travel within the region for meetings/training as required. The successful candidate will need to be flexible with their working hours. Reaching members who work in public services can be challenging during "office hours" so the successful candidate may be required to work in the evening, early morning and occasionally at weekends.
