Overview


The Diocesan Trustees are seeking to appoint are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Building Surveyor/Project Manager to oversee and coordinate the delivery of our major capital projects from initial site survey through to completion. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise in surveying with strong project management capabilities, ensuring projects are delivered to the highest standards of quality, safety, and client satisfaction

The post holder will contribute to the important work of the Diocesan Property Team which provides professional buildings advice across a wide and diverse array of properties and estates including churches, presbyteries and residential accommodation, social centres/parish facilities and other associated buildings.

The successful post-holder will be expected to represent and work in accordance with the ethos of the Diocese of Salford to ensure the highest standards of property management are maintained and to promote the dignity of all those involved in the work to build and maintain their property.

Responsibilities



Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the management and use of diocesan and parish land and property assets. Produce drawings and specifications for work to be undertaken on churches, schools and other properties as instructed. Prepare and produce administration documentation such as sub-contractor documentation, analysis of quotations and price comparisons, certification of sub-contractor payments, issuing variation orders and preparing financial statements. Review proposals, plans and tender submissions, providing advice to the appropriate Trustee Committee with responsibility for Finance and Property on suitability and effective deployment of resources. Work in partnership with internal members of the team to provide general advice to enquiries. Foster a collaborative approach with external advisors such as architects and other building consultants to ensure that new or refurbishment projects are appropriately managed and delivered in an economic and efficient manner. Manage budgets effectively ensuring best value for charitable and public funds. Manage and quality assure the performance of external advisors, consultants and building, mechanical and electrical contractors. Undertake necessary continuing professional development and training. When required to be able to make full use of IT systems and CAD software packages. Ensure compliance with systems to control, monitor and manage financial resources in accordance with Diocesan policies. In association with other departments, ensure the compliance with policies and procedures for the safety and health of all employees and develop and foster a positive workplace environment committed to the continuous improvement, effectiveness and sustained performance of all members of the Department for Finance and Administration.

Project Management Duties

Plan, coordinate, and manage projects from survey through to handover. Liaise with clients, architects, contractors, and internal teams to ensure smooth project progression. Create and manage project timelines, budgets, and documentation. Oversee site preparation, installation scheduling, and quality assurance. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies. Conduct site inspections during and after installation to ensure workmanship meets standards.

Skills



Educated to degree-level or equivalent in appropriate technical or development function. Have chartered membership of RICS or equivalent professional body and have evidence of ongoing professional development. Experience of working as part of a small team in a diverse organisation Have suitable, relevant, substantial experience working in a similar role within an office environment including experience of using Microsoft Office Suite programs Ability to conduct themselves professionally and project a friendly manner, focusing on providing excellent customer service. Demonstrate ability to work unsupervised using initiative to complete tasks with competing priorities under pressure. Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with colleagues, the clergy, service providers and members of the public. Ability to handle challenging people and situations with sensitivity and in accordance with the values of the Catholic Church. Role will require discretion and confidentiality wherever necessary.
