An outgoing craft-spirits lover is required to help manage the Cornish market, drive new business development, and nurture our existing accounts.
Southwestern Distillery, producers of Tarquin's Gin, Twin Fin Rum, Connie Glaze Vodka and Tinner Bros. Whisky Co. are recruiting for a Business Development Manager in Cornwall. We're looking for someone with several years' experience in a similar role to take on an important position in our local heartland.
Where do you fit in?
We are looking for someone to lead and deliver our ambitious Cornwall sales plan, joining an enthusiastic in-house UK sales team. The role focuses predominantly on the on-trade, with some off-trade responsibilities. It's a varied, exciting position looking after some of the best accounts in the country.
What are the job requirements?
Confidence in creating and executing a sales plan
Ability to work well as part of a team (often remotely) while remaining highly independent
Competence with Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn CRM software
Comfort working under pressure toward ambitious targets
Flexibility and adaptability
Strong organisational and strategic thinking skills
Plenty of initiative, with the ability to make important decisions autonomously
A holistic approach to promotion, passion for our products and ethos, and an understanding of what we bring to the Cornish drinks market
Full (clean) UK driving licence
Experience in sales is essential, ideally within the drinks industry
Bonus points: WSET qualifications, cocktail experience, existing Cornwall/Devon contacts
What does the role involve?
The role is challenging and varied and no two days are likely to be the same. You'll have full responsibility for structuring your working week and driving your own execution, which makes the following expectations essential:
Manage existing account relationships, ensuring current listings are supported with creative incentives and consistent communication
Proactively seek out and secure new on-trade accounts through meetings, tastings, and strong relationship-building
Maintain a deep and continually expanding knowledge of spirits to speak with confidence, credibility, and enthusiasm
Deliver engaging staff training sessions at accounts and occasionally shake or stir a drink or two
Complete a minimum of 10 meaningful sales calls or visits per field day, prioritising quality while still meeting activity targets
Keep our sales database accurately updated with detailed daily inputs
Work remotely from Cornwall while staying closely connected with the wider team
Represent the brand at trade shows, festivals, and key events, with willingness to travel across the UK and potentially overseas
Visit off-trade outlets (independents, farm shops, delicatessens) to offer samples, engage customers, and build awareness
Develop, own, and execute a robust field sales and marketing plan for the Southwest region
