We are looking for a proactive and commercially minded
Business Development Manager
to drive growth within our SME-focused accounting firm. This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of the challenges and needs of small to medium-sized enterprises, who can build meaningful client relationships and identify opportunities across services such as tax, compliance, advisory, and accounts. You'll work closely with directors to expand our client base, strengthen referral networks, and position the firm as a trusted advisor to growing businesses. A background in professional services or financial solutions for SMEs is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Identify and pursue new business opportunities for the firm's core services (accounts, tax, advisory, etc.) to meet growth targets.
Research and target potential clients in key sectors; build and maintain a strong pipeline of leads.
Work closely with the team to develop engagement strategies, manage proposals & pitches, and follow up on business opportunities.
Cross?sell services: understand client needs and introduce specialists across service lines.
Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory / sector changes to spot opportunities for outreach or service innovation.
Coordinate with Marketing to plan and run campaigns, events, thought leadership pieces, and other outreach efforts.
Build and nurture relationships with existing clients to retain business and generate referrals.
Prepare reports on business development activities, including progress towards targets and forecasts.
Attend industry events, conferences, and networking functions to promote the company's services.
Identify potential clients and new market opportunities through research and networking.
Driving the entire sales cycle from lead generation to closing deals.
Requirements
Proven experience in business development or sales, preferably in a related industry.
5+ years of B2B sales experience.
Strong understanding of accounting / financial terminology, services, client needs. ACA / ACCA / equivalent qualification is a plus.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with clients at all levels.
Excellent organisational skills with a keen attention to detail.
Commercial awareness, with ability to spot trends / gaps in the market.
Well?organised, able to manage multiple projects / leads concurrently, track outcomes, and meet targets.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
A proactive approach to problem-solving with strong analytical skills.
