Salary: 27,711 - 31,067 - pro rata for part time

Summary of role

We are recruiting two Business Support Officers to join us at Avon Fire & Rescue Service! One is a Full Time opportunity and the other is Part Time opportunity (3 days a week)


This role sits within the Business Support Team and reports to the Business Support Manager. This is a generic admin support post and staff in this post may be requested to support other teams dependent on business need across the Service that requires this level of admin. This is in line with the Business Support Team's approach to a flexible and agile workforce.


This role collaborates with their equivalent to support a variety of areas including, data protection, policy, insurance, corporate communications and projects.

Some of the things you'll be doing

Collaborate effectively with the other Business Support Officer to plan, prioritise, and coordinate shared responsibilities, ensuring efficient completion of work within agreed timeframes. Manage a policy coordination process to support policy owners in maintaining up-to-date service policies. This includes providing guidance, proofreading documents, managing the SharePoint repository, communicating updates, and ensuring compliance with best practices. Process insurance claims by notifying potential claims to insurers, maintain accurate records, and ensue timely responses to information requests Provide administrative support to the Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) process, with the opportunity to gain qualifications and/or experience in the legal requirements of this area. Support the Corporate Communications team with Fire Service events and logistics, which will include some travel to different AF&RS sites and event locations. Provide administrative and project support for Service initiatives and ad-hoc tasks, as directed by your line manager. Provide cover of Switchboard for three days over a fortnightly period. Carry out any additional responsibilities as reasonable and appropriate, as agreed with line manager.




What we will need from you

Essential


At least 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A-C) *, including English and Maths.
Competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint). Previous experience in an administrative and/or support role. (typically 1-2 years). Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and must be able to liaise, consult and advise, verbally and in writing, to people at all levels of the organisation and external stakeholders as required. Able to demonstrate a high level of confidentiality and discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive information. Aptitude for accuracy and attention to detail. Able to prioritise workload and meet deadlines Able to drive with a full current valid driving licence, or ability to arrange suitable alternative transport to travel to various work locations. Willingness to accept and work to our Core Values during the course of employment. Strong stakeholder ethic with customer orientated approach. Desirable


Administrative or Project based qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration or equivalent experience). Experience of using planning, project or performance management tools. Previous experience working in a Fire and Rescue Service or similar complex public organisation.
