Job Description

Sussex Meat Co. is an independent, highly regarding catering / wholesale butcher based in Worthing. The business has been operating on the same site for over 25 years. We supply various organisations including schools, care homes and businesses mainly in the greater Worthing area and other parts of West Sussex. We also sell to the general public and online.

We are seeking an experienced butcher or butchery manager to run the day to day operation of our catering business and soon to launch online business.

The role would suit someone who is keen to build a long term interest in the business thereby sharing in the profitability they will help create.

The current role requires, but is not limited to the following:-

- Manage and assist in the preparation of daily customer orders.

- Track and anticipate daily demand (based on customer orders).

- Order produce from several suppliers to meet above demand.

- Negotiate with suppliers to optimise price/volumes/quality.

- Prepare daily invoices using a computerised system.

- Ensure product rotation and protection in chiller and freezer. Minimise freezer stock levels.

- Manage the maintenance and proper functioning of all butchery equipment.

- Oversee the completion of daily, weekly, monthly HACCP requirements.

- Ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards mandated by EHO/FSA and comply with current HACCP and hygiene regulations.

- Maintain our 5 star food hygiene rating.

- Assist in daily cleaning of the butchery and monthly deep cleans.

- Actively promote the name of the business and generate sales where possible.

- Oversee and manage other members of staff.

Full training of the ordering/buying process and other systems will be provided.

You will be assisted by a highly experienced member of the team and the general manager and will be expected to operate the butchery side of the business by yourself asap.

Require Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2.

Wage/salary dependent on experience and qualifications.
