About the role
Are you ready to make a real impact on a flagship rail project? Balfour Beatty is looking for a proactive and experienced Buyer to join our team on a fixed-term contract supporting the delivery of a major infrastructure programme. This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with project teams and the wider procurement community to deliver best-in-class sourcing strategies and drive value across materials procurement.
What you'll be doing

• Lead the procurement of materials and services, ensuring project requirements are met and savings targets exceeded.

• Collaborate with commercial teams to ensure contract terms are appropriately applied.

• Deliver and maintain project-specific procurement strategies and schedules.

• Identify high-spend categories and implement framework agreements to optimise value.

• Manage tender processes, evaluate bids, and select suppliers in line with strategic goals.

• Drive supply chain improvements and performance using tools like Jaggaer and Oracle.

• Report on procurement performance, savings, and supplier feedback.

Who we're looking for

• Strong communication and negotiation skills.

• Experience in procurement on large-scale projects, ideally within rail or infrastructure.

• Working knowledge of Oracle and Jaggaer systems.

• Ability to manage multiple tenders and deliver validated savings.

• Commercial awareness and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment.

• Proven track record of running successful high-value tenders and managing supplier performance.
