The company



Stonewood Group operates from our headquarters in Castle Combe, Wiltshire and for the last 50 years have delivered high quality bespoke projects for clients and more recently new build housing developments complimented by our in group groundwork business.

Stonewood Group consists of Stonewood Builders (high end contractor), Stonewood Homes (new build housing developer) and Earthstone Construction (groundworks & civils contractor).

We have a vacancy for a Buyer to join our Procurement team.

The role



We are looking for an experience buyer with knowledge of construction materials and the ability to negotiate best price, service and terms. Attention to detail and able to understand commercial opportunity whilst meeting specification requirements. The role will require an understanding and appreciation of the construction process and the ability to work closely with all departmental functions. The Buyer will be able to operate proactively as part of the team and with a high degree of initiative and independence.

Role purpose



As a Buyer you will be an integral member of the group procurement team and be responsible for the purchase of materials and hire requirements across Stonewood Group businesses and projects.

This role will report into the Head of Procurement and be based predominantly from our Castle Combe office, Wiltshire and will require travel to our sites and regional offices.

Key responsibilities



Full ownership of direct procurement activities for allocated projects, from initial tender handover to project close.

To collate all relevant information and send enquiries to relevant suppliers.

Analysis of returned quotations and identification of commercial opportunities to make recommendations for supply.

Negotiate to achieve orders within budget and construction programme timescales

Placing of accurate purchase orders including input of details on company procurement software package.

Management of supplier relationships and framework agreements within category spend areas as allocated.

Update of Procurement Schedules in liaison with project Quantity Surveyor and Contracts Managers.

Collation of cost information for inclusion within monthly project CVR reports.

Attend and participate in site project meetings as required.

Work with the Accounts Department and suppliers to minimise and resolve any invoice queries.

Identify appropriate new suppliers for inclusion within the company supply chain.

Hire / off-hire of plant and small tools for projects.

Monitor and audit utilisation of hired items in conjunction with operational teams.

Establishment of supplier terms and agreements for common high usage items.

Keep up to date with new products, regulations and technology on the market.

Work with the wider Stonewood Group to identify common areas of opportunity with supply chain and including contribution to group agreements.

Monitor spend against budget and report to commercial team when supply exceeds budget.

Scheduling ability an advantage.

Skills and Qualifications



Knowledge of construction materials (for example, groundworks / super structure / fit out) with an appreciation of application, technical performance, storage, and delivery methods.

Disciplined and well organised with the ability to work to own initiative and to deadlines in a fast-paced role.

Understanding of the construction process particularly civils, high end commercial and residential new build and refurbishment and new build housing sectors.

Ability to read, interpret and understand technical construction drawings.

Have a commercial mind-set and an awareness of the wider implications of procurement decisions, service, delivery, terms.

Good communication skills as you will be working closely with suppliers, operational teams, commercial teams and finance departments.

Construction or builders merchant background.

Experience of working on multiple projects simultaneously.

Strong written & oral communication skills.

High awareness of health and safety requirements within construction.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 35,000.00-40,000.00 per year
