About the Role
This is a varied and hands-on role responsible for ensuring the continuity of supply of materials and components into the manufacturing operation. The position is suitable for both experienced buyers seeking a new challenge and individuals with the drive and willingness to develop their purchasing skill set.
The Buyer will manage purchase orders, respond to MRP messages, liaise closely with suppliers, expedite orders where required, and collaborate across departments to support smooth operational performance. Strong PC skills are essential for using the MRP system and the Purchasing Supplier Portal.
Key Responsibilities
Action MRP messages and raise purchase orders accordingly.
Maintain continuity of supply for parts and raw materials required for manufacturing.
Support cost-competitive sourcing from UK, EU, and low-cost country suppliers.
Manage a diverse range of commodities, adapting to changing priorities as needed.
Work closely with the Purchasing Manager through open communication and regular updates on supply status.
Leverage group spending opportunities and identify new sourcing opportunities.
Support lean inventory management, reviewing Item Master data and coordinating controlled changes.
Drive continuous improvement across suppliers, logistics, transportation, and packaging.
Maintain performance in line with agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Contribute to problem-solving and process improvement initiatives with team and management support.
Escalate any risks or threats to supply to the Purchasing Manager promptly.
Integrate effectively within the team and collaborate with other departments across the business.
Complete all daily tasks efficiently and within required timeframes to support a busy purchasing environment.

Essential Requirements
Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent engineering/quality qualification.
Auditor qualification preferred; VDA knowledge/background.
Fluent in reading, writing, and interpreting technical language.
Minimum 5 years' quality experience within a manufacturing environment, with a self-starting and hands-on working style.
Experience with automotive or aerospace quality systems and requirements.
Strong knowledge of quality tools such as 8D, FMEA, SPC, MSA, etc.
Good understanding of lean manufacturing flow, processes, measures, and goals.
Effective communicator with cross-functional teamwork skills and strong presentation ability.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Familiarity with international quality standards (including ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and VDA) as referenced in competencies.
