Here's a breakdown of what you'll be doing:Negotiate with suppliers in a tough but fair manner to secure exclusive ranges/brands and optimize the profit margin
Work with Merchandising to plan by brand, category, price and size, the seasonal OTB and ensure it is monitored closely in season and come into budget
Work with the Merchandising team to establish a balanced range of merchandise suited to the customer profile of the company. Work together to make recommendations for changes and improvements to maximize sales potential and profit within the company
Be proactive in understanding the competition and take action to minimize the loss of market share
Determine pricing strategies for products/suppliers based on market reviews, competitor positions, supplier financials, etc.
Fully understand supplier cost structure and logistics costs. Is able to identify value added opportunities for as appropriate
Ensure intake business margin is maintained and proactively improved season on season
Be innovative and to be open to forecast upcoming trends and ensure that fashion moves on and changes
To be familiar with both local and overseas market situations and trends
Source newness and to maintain a leading position in the market of products in its own category
Actively create and use collaborations/exclusives to grow business overall, within a brand and use margin opportunities with these exclusives. 'Create for a plan' not just another exclusive to maximise success - future planning (timeline of working 12 months in advance)
Ensure timely delivery of merchandise and ensure consistent quality and quantity to
Monitor sell-through and deliveries of all vendors and take decisive action to deal with their performance
Drive continuous range planning and execution of sales and stock target
Work closely with internal stakeholders and Marketing to deliver the correct image to the end customer through the correct channels
Manage the business relationship with the suppliers involved in their business category to maximize sales and profit
Provide accurate knowledge and information to sales staff for them to communicate with the customers. To work with Personal Shopping - critical sales plan
Train sales staff in all aspects of their merchandise including product knowledge and visual presentation in person and provide collateral
Demonstrate and reinforce the Net-A-Porter Vision and Values at all times and provide the necessary leadership to gain commitment from buying team (owning, retaining, and developing your talented team and business)
Identify and execute ways to increase team member's loyalty, satisfaction and pride with the Net-A-Porter experience
Reinforce the company message to the team and reinforce the need to drive profitability at Net-A-Porter through the merchandise mix and full price sell through
Provide on the job coaching to ensure that the direct reports are able to meet and exceed the requirements of the role
Identify and facilitate opportunities for additional training for the team
Monitor and review performance of direct reports, identify individuals who are ready for promotion or require performance improvement plans
Take appropriate corrective action with team members who fall below standard (in consultation with HR Department)
Complete and present performance appraisals based on defined goals and objectives for their team members in a timely manner.
The type of person we are looking for:Significant, demonstrable experience operating at either a Junior Buyer or Buyer level within a multiband, luxury retail environment
Proven commercial experience of trading in a fast paced and reactive environment.
Proven track record of creating positive impact on business through buying strategy.
Proven track record of networking and negotiation skills.
Good judgement and decision-making skills
Confidence in suggesting calculated risks
Strong analytical and IT skills
Exceptional people management experience.
