Job Description

The National Buying Administration team is looking for a Legal Assistant to support supplier onboarding and contracting. Reporting to the Buying Manager Administration, you'll be responsible for managing and optimising supplier contracts.

In this role, you'll review, negotiate, and amend contracts to ensure they reflect commercial terms while protecting the company's legal and operational interests. You'll work closely with Buying colleagues and external legal teams, serving as a key contact for contract-related matters and ensuring alignment with business goals and regulatory requirements.

A key part of your role will be to support the onboarding of new suppliers from a contractual perspective. This includes preparing and issuing standard and bespoke agreements, ensuring compliance with internal policies, and guiding new suppliers through the contract process to ensure timely and accurate execution. You'll help establish a smooth contractual foundation that supports strong, long-term supplier relationships.

You'll also help manage contract renewals and variations, resolve legal queries, and identify and mitigate contractual risks. Additionally, you'll support improvements to contract management processes, including maintaining accurate records, enhancing workflows, updating templates, and helping implement digital tools.

This role requires a strong commercial mindset, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to balance legal considerations with business needs. Your work will be key to ensuring our supplier arrangements are clear, compliant, and built to support sustainable growth.

Your New Role


Draft, review, and negotiate supplier contracts, including supply agreements, amendments, and addenda Ensure contracts comply with legal requirements and company policies Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to align contract terms with business needs Manage contract lifecycle and track key obligations, milestones, and renewal dates Provide legal guidance on contractual risks and mitigation strategies Support dispute resolution and contract enforcement, when necessary Draft legal documents, when necessary Maintain accurate and organized contract records and documentation Flexibility of covering an array of different topics whilst having a specific area of responsibility Completing any other ad hoc tasks required

About You


Strong commercial acumen Degree in Law (LLB or equivalent) Experience in commercial contracts, preferably in the retail, FMCG, or grocery sector Excellent communication skills, able to interact confidently colleagues at all levels Experience drafting various legal documents including contracts and letters of variation Ability to manage and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels Have a strong understanding of contract law and supply chain agreements Be excellent at drafting and negotiation Ability to manage a varied workload Confident with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint Excellent attention to detail and time management skills Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and multi task efficiently Ability to understand and anticipate needs to ensure appropriate outcomes Pro-active with communications and manages expectations on delivery Ability to proactively work towards challenging deadlines through multitasking and resilience Able to work efficiently and deliver against short deadlines Can deliver solutions autonomously High levels of initiative and proactivity Intellectually curious and takes initiative Highly organised
