We are looking for an experienced CAD/CAM Engineer to join our production team. This is a hands-on role where you'll play a key part in bringing our clients creative visions to life. You'll be responsible for translating our clients' designs into production-ready 3D CAD models, programming our CNC machine and providing technical documentation for smooth and efficient production.
The role requires industry experience using SolidWorks 3D CAD and CAM programming for CNC machinery.
Responsibilities:
Create production ready 3D CAD models in SolidWorks using a variety of materials (Timber, Laminates, Veneers, Metal, Glass etc.), Hardware and 3rd party components.
Program and verify CAM tooling paths for our in-house 3-axis CNC router.
Maintain and optimise CNC/CAM tooling libraries and machining strategies.
Produce accurate technical drawings for internal makers and external suppliers
Collaborate with makers, suppliers, and technical experts to resolve design challenges and deliver practical and reliable solutions.
Manage and refine our CAD model libraries to ensure efficient, production-ready designs.
Research new materials, construction methods, tooling and other improvements to continually innovate products to be best in class.
Ensure production is consistently supplied with clear, accurate work packages.
Purchase and order materials, ensuring suitable lead times are met to achieve production targets.
Oversee supply chain and purchasing to ensure materials are JIT, available where and when required.
Skills:
Essential
2+ years 3D CAD experience in an industry setting (or equivalent)* 2+ years programming and working with CNC machinery (or equivalent)* Manufacturing or Engineering industry background
Ability to read, interpret, and create detailed engineering drawings
Creative problem-solver with a proactive, can-do attitude
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with procurement, purchasing, and supplier coordination.
Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Self-starter who works well independently and collaboratively in a team
Attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality
Understanding of materials, tolerances, and fabrication processes
Advantageous
Experience with SWOOD (Design, CAM, or Nesting) in SolidWorks
Biesse BSolid CAM programming knowledge
Familiarity with Lean or Just-In-Time (JIT) manufacturing principles
Background in furniture or cabinetmaking design and production
Experience using ERP/MRP or similar (Airtable, MS Project) systems for production planning
