Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Cafe Manager to lead our bustling coffee bar near the famous Royal Mile in Edinburgh's Old Town. With a steady flow of both local patrons and international tourists, we're looking for an individual who can thrive in a fast-paced environment, maintain exceptional service standards, and inspire a team.

This role will require flexibility, as the successful candidate will actively participate in daily operations -- including solo shifts -- to ensure smooth running of the business.

Key Responsibilities



Daily Operations Coordination

Oversee and coordinate both Front of House and Back of House activities. Maintain a welcoming atmosphere while ensuring operational efficiency.

Superior Customer Service

Deliver excellent service to all customers. Handle customer complaints promptly and effectively, striving for the highest customer satisfaction.

Quality Control & Vendor Relations

Regularly review product quality and freshness. Research and collaborate with new suppliers or vendors as needed.

Staff Scheduling & Holidays

Create and manage weekly shift schedules. Approve and organise staff holidays in accordance with operational needs.

Regulatory Compliance

Ensure all operations meet sanitation and safety regulations. Keep up-to-date with local health and safety guidelines.

Stock & Cost Management

Oversee inventory, ordering, and stock rotation to maintain optimal levels. Control operational costs and identify areas to reduce waste without compromising quality.

Brand Promotion

Manage and update cafe social media accounts, engaging with the local community. Develop promotional strategies to increase footfall and customer engagement.

Team Leadership & Training

Hire and onboard new staff, as well as train existing employees on best practices. Provide clear guidance, support, and motivation to maintain high morale.

Requirements



Proven Experience

Prior experience as a Cafe Manager or Espresso Bar Manager, preferably in a high-traffic environment. Demonstrated track record in delivering excellent customer service.

Leadership & People Skills

Strong leadership qualities, with the ability to coach and motivate team members. Effective communicator, comfortable with both giving and receiving feedback.

Financial & Operational Acumen

Familiarity with budgeting, managing operational costs, and financial reporting. Ability to implement strategies that enhance revenue and customer satisfaction.

Flexibility & Adaptability

Comfortable handling solo shifts during busy or unexpected circumstances.
