Four Square Scotland is an Edinburgh charity working for more than 40 years to prevent homelessness and promote inclusion. We provide services directly to people who are homeless, or who are at risk of homelessness to overcome any barriers they may face in creating a stable life for themselves in their community. We are driven by our mission to ensure everyone has the opportunity to have a home and a place in their community. As a social enterprise, our cafe plays a dual role in generating income and providing volunteering opportunities for individuals who have faced homelessness in Edinburgh.

About the role

Situated in Saughton Park, we are a community cafe, based in the heart of the community with a welcoming, cozy atmosphere and delicious, reasonably priced food.

This role will involve customer service, food and drink preparation, general cafe tasks, taking orders, cleaning and cashing up. The successful applicants are proactive, can work flexibly and efficiently, as well as having a calm and compassionate nature.

KEY DUTIES

- Being a leader on shift, directing cafe assistants to operate the cafe and delegating tasks when needed.

- Organise breaks for staff

- Ensure health and safety checks; open and close down procedures are followed for front of house

- Open and close the cafe, including cashing up

- Manage the shift including any absences and shift changes

- Support the General Manager and Assistant Manager as directed on shift or in their absence

- Hot drinks preparation / barista style coffee prep

- Food service - hot food, cakes, snacks

- Stock rotation and manage supplies

- Customer service

- Maintaining health and safety standards, including maintaining high standards of cleanliness and completing necessary records

- Assist with training new and existing staff

- Communication with the whole team in order to ensure continuity

- Carry out any other duties within the general scope of the post, as directed by the Manager/Assistant Manager

SCHEDULE:

Day shifts only Monday to Sunday between 9am and 4:30pm - occasional evening work may be required for events. We make no guarantee of any work, or any minimum amount of work, being made available to you at any time

Pay: 12.60 per hour

Expected hours: 21 per week
