The Cowshed Cafe. Weekend Team Member



Weekend work: Saturdays and Sundays

Hours: 09:00-13:00 (additional hours may be available during the Summer)

Age required: 17yrs+

Rate of pay: Above national minimum wage, starting hourly rate will depend on age and experience.

to join our cycling cafe.

At The Cowshed Cafe, we pride ourselves on exceptional customer service and serving high-quality food and drinks to our passionate cycling community and local customers alike.

What you'll be doing:

Welcoming customers and creating a warm, friendly atmosphere. Serving premium coffee and fresh food to customers' tables. Taking orders on our POS system (point of sale). Supporting daily cafe operations to keep everything running smoothly. Being part of a team that shares a love for cycling, coffee, and connection.

Job description



Key activities and responsibilities:

Greeting customers & providing excellent customer service. Delivering food and drink orders to customers in a friendly and timely manner. Ensuring the food/drink items match the order and delivering them to the tables,(inside and outside). Clearing, cleaning and sanitising tables. Loading, unloading and operating the dishwasher. Restocking cups, plates and trays to the correct areas. Cleaning and sanitising various areas of the cafe, including front and back of house. Re-stocking food and drink items from storage to the correct areas. Speaking and interacting with both new and regular customers. Assisting with customer queries. Maintaining a clean and sanitised working environment. Following health and safety guidelines. Being aware of and following operational policies and procedures. The ability to work flexible hours with main shifts on the weekends and bank holidays. Learning to make hot beverages using the coffee machine, grinders and hot water dispenser. Operating our POS (Point of Sale) system to take customer orders and receive payment with both cash and card. Working towards a food hygiene certificate (if not already obtained). Follow the normal operating plan, ensuring correct opening and closing times and setting up and clearing down as required. Assist with the taking up/clearing away of internal and external equipment, from chairs, tables and parasols, to branding and gazebos for events. Learning to operate media equipment, including projector and audio systems. Uphold the highest standards of health and safety, cleanliness and professionalism and use your own initiative to respond quickly to issues or challenges that may arise when you are on duty.

Person Specification



We require someone who is:

Punctual, presentable and motivated. Passionate about coffee & cycling Friendly, cheerful and positive with every customer. Keen to learn new skills. Attentive and able to use your initiative. Able to listen and follow instructions correctly. A team player.

Education, qualifications or experience:



GCSE in Maths and English is essential.

Experience of working in hospitality; a cafe/catering environment.

Level 1 or 2 food hygiene certification. This is desirable but not essential as we will enrol you on to the online course if required.

Barista experience (is desirable, but not essential, training will be given)

Knowledge, skills and abilities:



Excellent reading, writing and arithmetic skills.
Be physically fit and able to assist with lifting and carrying catering and event equipment. Able to work comfortably in a high-pressure environment.
Be available to work weekends, bank holidays and the occasional evening event.
