Job Description

The Post



Primarily based within one of the teaching/sports/admin buildings or a cluster group compromising of a number of residential properties, you will be an enthusiastic individual, committed to ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness are maintained throughout the buildings.



Reporting directly to an on-site Supervisor, you will be responsible in ensuring designated areas are cleaned in accordance with specifications and prepared for customer use.



Flexibility in location is required to ensure all building cover is maintained throughout the year, particularly during periods such as arrivals and departures and events including graduation.



As a front facing role, you will be expected to provide excellence in customer care to all users of the properties.

You are required to wear a uniform (that will be provided) and are expected to have a high standard of personal appearance.



As the post involves manual handling, you should have the ability to perform repetitive tasks, including lifting and bending.



Hours of work may vary depending on your shift pattern and there is a requirement to be flexible to work 5 days over 7 to meet business needs and cover the cleaning schedule.



Cleaners/Housekeepers are expected to work on the main student arrival (September) and departure weekends (May/ June and August), Applicant and Open days, Graduation and other key events. Dates and requirements will be advised.

Description of Duties

Operational




Provide planned and reactivecleaning services to defined service level standards to ensure a common standard is maintained within your designated area. Cleaning services include cleaning of all accessible surfaces, comprising furniture, fixtures and fittings, various floor types, carpets, sanitary ware, toilet and shower facilities (including unblocking drains as necessary), kitchens (including appliances) Report any maintenance, damage, cleanliness issues to the Supervisor, Accommodation Operations Assistant or Cleaning Services Manager Report any areas of concern in regard to student welfare immediately to Supervisor/Accommodation services or Student Support Services Ensure safe working practices are maintained in the workplace, particularly ensuring compliance with all instructions relating to the use and storage of chemicals, materials and equipment provided for the role Undertake legislative compliance through regular sanitising in relation to Legionella treatment and to report when such works are completed Carry out a full deep clean of all areas at the end of teaching/occupancy periods, as directed by the Supervisor Undertake room preparation in relation to bookings, including but not limited to making beds, literature distribution and hospitality provision set up Ensure all lost property is dealt with in accordance with University policy and procedures Attend and participate in relevant training and development to ensure that operational and safety standards are maintained at all times Support internal and external emergency cleaning, ensuring that body fluid and other emergency spillages and graffiti removal is dealt with in accordance with agreed procedures Empty waste and recycling receptacles in line with building specification and actual usage, transferring waste to designated disposal points Use all equipment and materials in an economical way, minimising waste. Restock consumables and report any faults or difficulties with equipment or materials to the Supervisor

Customer Service




Provide excellence in all areas of customer service Welcome and respond effectively and efficiently to any enquiries from students, staff or visitors Participate in key University events e.g., graduation, student arrivals, Open Days, providing friendly, customer focused, proactive cleaning support Promote a positive image of the University, and the department, at all times by personally living the values, maintaining a professional appearance, wearing protective clothing/workwear as issued, whilst maintaining a positive and proactive mindset Assist with pedestrian flow, using supportive marshalling techniques at key events and times e.g., lecture change over, particularly at the beginning of the academic year, graduations etc

Health and Safety




Ensure all work carried out complies with relevant risk assessments, safety legislation, University safety policies and procedures and all applicable regulations, Approved Code of Practices and good practice guidelines Ensure manual handling practices are observed at all times Complete and assist with compliance checks as required Assist with fire management procedures as required, supporting building users in the event of a fire alarm or emergency evacuation, directing them to the nearest emergency exits Report any breaches of security and emergencies within area of work to the Supervisor or Security and assist with emergency procedures as required

Essential Criteria

The University will pay a supplement per annum pro rata with effect from 01 November 2025, to align with the Real Living Wage (RLW) which equates to 25,178 p.a. This RLW supplement will be reviewed annually to take account of future increases and RLW rates.



There is an expectation that work will be undertaken in the UK.



This role will require a Level 1 Disclosure check. An offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory outcome of this process.
