Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Canteen Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our canteen, providing excellent service to our customers while maintaining high standards of food safety and cleanliness. This position requires a passion for food and customer service, along with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Duties

Assist in the preparation and presentation of food items, ensuring they meet quality standards. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen and serving areas, adhering to food safety regulations. Serve food and beverages to customers, providing friendly and efficient service. Engage with customers to promote menu items, employing upselling techniques where appropriate. Handle cash transactions accurately and efficiently, utilising basic maths skills for till operations. Collaborate with team members to ensure timely food preparation and service during busy periods. Assist in inventory management by monitoring stock levels and reporting shortages as needed. Help maintain a positive atmosphere within the canteen by fostering good relationships with colleagues and customers.

Qualifications

Previous experience in a kitchen or restaurant environment is preferred but not essential. Knowledge of food safety practices is advantageous. Strong time management skills to handle multiple tasks effectively during peak hours. Basic culinary skills with an understanding of food preparation techniques. Ability to work well within a team as well as independently when required. Excellent communication skills, with a focus on customer service. A proactive attitude towards upselling menu items to enhance customer experience.
