Job Title: Reinsurance Capital Actuary


Division: Risk & Capital Management


Key Relationships: Head of Capital. Head of Ceded Re and Reinsurance Steering Committee members. Capital team. Ceded Re team.


Job Summary: To be responsible for using the Group\xe2\x80\x99s internal model to plan and support the Group\xe2\x80\x99s reinsurance purchase (2023 = $1.3B).

Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:


To build and implement the process:

  • To use the internal model to calculate the return on capital of the Group\xe2\x80\x99s reinsurance.
  • To set out options to support the development of the Group\xe2\x80\x99 reinsurance plan.
  • To evaluate detailed options during reinsurance placement.
  • To evaluate ad hoc reinsurance purchases.
  • To report the relevant analysis to the Reinsurance Steering Committee each quarter.
  • To ensure that the internal model reinsurance assumptions reflect the risk profile.

Other Responsibilities:
  • To develop understanding of the business that will assist producing analysis to use the internal model output
  • To develop understanding of the regulatory approaches that will assist presenting internal model output
  • To comply with relevant Beazley procedures and policies

Education and Qualifications
  • Qualified actuary

Skills and Abilities
  • Able to communicate effectively with internal staff and regulators, both verbally and in writing.
  • Team worker as well as able to work on own initiative.
  • General commercial and financial knowledge.
  • The ability to manage time, meet deadlines and prioritise.
  • Strong Programming skills with exposure to MS Excel 2007, MS Access 2007, and VBA
  • Understanding of statistical concepts and exposure to using statistical software with an ability to learn new technologies quickly

Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience of reinsurance analysis desirable. Experience of either/both casualty and catastrophe programmes particularly relevant.
  • Professional work experience; exposure to insurance industry advantageous
  • Data analysis and research
