We require a Carbon Performance Lead to deliver impactful carbon awareness and performance to reduce carbon emissions across the Environment Agency's flood and coastal risk management schemes.
This role sits in Projects & Programme Delivery (PPD) and is a prominent leadership position within our integrated project teams. The role holder will provide strong sustainability leadership to influence senior leaders to prioritise carbon reduction across their programme of construction works. They will also identify specific carbon reduction actions annually, and subsequently coordinate multiple technical specialists and project managers to ensure the delivery of such actions.
In addition, the role holder will maximise the reduction of carbon by upskilling and empowering the integrated delivery team, and its supply chain, to ensure best practice carbon management and thinking are adopted at every opportunity. The role holder will also require strong commercial awareness and manage a financial budget to deliver the above tasks.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team
We are the North-West PPD Team and are part of the wider Northern Hub. We are led by a Delivery Manager overseeing approximately 75 staff and are supported by Programme Specialists, Programme Managers and Project Team Managers (PTM). Each PTM manages Project Executives, Project Managers and Project Support Officers who manage the delivery of projects within our flood & coastal erosion risk management programme using our framework suppliers.
Experience/skills required
Essential Skills
A degree (or equivalent) in; environmental, geography, science or engineering related discipline.
Experience influencing senior leaders & project teams to adopt more sustainable practices.
Experience in sustainability & carbon management in project delivery.
Areas of expertise that are beneficial include; carbon assessments/reporting and behavioural and organisational & systems change
Experience in a project and contract management, ideally within engineering, construction or flood & coastal risk management.
The ability to mentor and support others in the delivery of their work.
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills are a requirement as stakeholder management is an important aspect of the role to facilitate a collaborative environment.
Desirable Skills:
Experience as a senior project manager across a range of projects.
Chartered membership of a professional body such as CIWEM, ICE or APMP.
Experience of delivering results on technically challenging projects through coordination of a technical team.
