JOB DESCRIPTION -- CARE ASSISTANT

Purpose of Position



To provide personal care and support to all our Residents with the upmost dignity and respect always.

To promote freedom of speech, choice and inclusion.

To ensure personal wellbeing and to promote and support independence as well as respect individual's privacy and right to life.

Key Areas of Responsibility



To provide personal and practical care, to provide support for all our residents who have a wide range of needs, illnesses and disabilities.

To assist and support our residents throughout the day, and to support them with getting up in the morning and going to bed at night. This will include washing or bathing, dressing or undressing and using the toilet when needed.

To help and support our residents with any mobility problems or other physical disabilities, and to help them with the use and care of mobility aids and personal equipment. This will be in conjunction with their individualised care plan and manual handling assessments.

To support residents when required with eating and drinking, ensuring that good nutrition and hydration is maintained. To understand and be aware of any additional elevated risk areas such as swallowing difficulties, choking risks and prescriptive food consistency requirements.

To help and support residents who have been identified as being at the end of their lives, and to also support their families and friends.

To actively promote equality, diversity and freedom of choice always.

To help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of all residents through the planned activity planner and by talking to them, taking them out or sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreation.

To answer call bells, the front door, telephone if needed and to warmly welcome all visitors to Susan Day ensuring they sign in and out in accordance to the fire and safety regulations.

To maintain accurate, up-to-date and timely records of the resident's care provided within their daily report notes or any other monitoring and supporting documentation.

To report immediately to the Duty Manager any noticeable changes in health, behaviour or circumstances of the residents whilst maintaining confidentiality and residents consent.

To report to the Duty Manager or senior management team any aspects of a resident's care which you feel may warrant investigation or urgent action.

To carry our accurately, and in a competent manner, instruction from the home's senior management team.

To attend all mandatory training and refresh mandatory training and in addition to, any further additional training to ensure you are kept knowledgeable and highly skilled within the role of Care Assistant. To undertake the Care Certificate or any nationally recognised qualification.

Other Responsibilities



To support the development of the homes ethos that reflects resident's individual needs and that celebrates and respects individual differences and diversity.

To ensure that you are aware of, understand and adhere to our in-house policies and procedures.

To make and change beds, empty and clean commodes, tidy rooms, light cleaning and dishwashing.

To undertake light food preparation, set meal trays, tables and serve meals, and to conduct all food handling within guidelines set under food health and hygiene safety legislation.

To be familiar with the Susan Day Health & Safety policy and to promote safe working practices. To ensure full compliance with infection control procedures following company policy.

To report and record any accident or incident which may occur - no matter how minor.

To inspect and carefully launder resident's clothes.

To encourage a home culture that embraces good staff moral and inclusion that develops good rapport and working relationships with all employees.

To support resident's in their emotional and spiritual need which will optimise their quality of life.

To understand, action and monitor any risk assessments within the home and with that of our resident's care needs.

To attend quarterly staff meetings, or a minimum of two per year, ensuring that you read and sign all meeting minutes.

To notify the Deputy Manager of any annual leave, maternity requirements or any other leave requirements.

To report any complaints to the Deputy Manager for further investigation.

To read and conform to all policies, procedures and guidelines laid down by Susan Day in respect of carrying out all care duties and in other administrative aspects of the business, as relevant.

To work as required by the homes rota and as agreed by Susan Day. To support the needs of the service by being flexible and to help with covering additional shifts where possible.

To adhere to the homes annual leave and sickness policies.

To be participative in the constant improvements and developments of the service by sharing ideas and inspirations.

To be available on an eight-weekly basis at an agreed time with your line manager for supervision and yearly appraisal.

To undertake any additional jobs that may be required for the safe running and needs of the service that are not detailed within this job description.
