St Catherine's is a small 10 bedded care home based in Lanark.
This position is for a Care Assistant with an SVQ2 / SVQ3 preferred but not essential. Candidates must be willing to complete their SVQ3 within 12 to 18 months of starting employment with St Catherine's.
Part time hours per week to be confirmed. 6.75 hours per shift. This includes Day Shift and Late Shift.

PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION
To provide a high standard of person-centred care to the residents of the care home in accordance with their assessed needs, ensuring that a safe, effective and responsive care service is provided, which enhances the life of each individual.
To work effectively as part of the team, creating a comfortable, friendly, 'community' environment in accordance with safeguarding principles and policies, and the philosophy and values of the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Care, Support and Wellbeing
1. To help and assist each resident with all aspects of daily personal care such as showering and bathing, dressing and grooming, dental hygiene, toileting and continence care, as drawn up in their care plan.
2. To encourage and support independence of each resident while maintaining residents' privacy, dignity and self-esteem.
3. To treat each resident as an individual, respecting their faith, ethnicity and background and facilitating opportunities for choice.
4. To assist each resident to maximise their potential while understanding the importance of the changing needs of a person's physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual abilities as they age.
5. To be familiar with and adhere to the planned care and support, or respite programme for each resident.
6. To be alert to the changes in a resident's physical, emotional and psychological health wellbeing and report promptly to senior staff and assist as required.
7. To assist with preparing and serving of food and drinks as requested / required and to manage the dining area and dining experience.
8. To assist any residents who need help during meal times (be aware of swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements etc).
9. To act as a key worker for named residents under the guidance of the Registered Manager, and maintain the programme of the Keyworker system.
10. To assist, engage and encourage residents with their activities, interests and hobbies.
11. To escort residents traveling e.g. on social outings, hospital visits, appointments etc.
12. To assist sensitively to the delivery of end of life care. To ensure full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved, in line with the Home's policies and procedures.
Health and Safety
1. To ensure a safe, stable, secure and homely environment is provided for all and to report anything to the contrary to Senior Management or to maintenance personnel.
2. To ensure a high level of competency and diligence with the safe administration of medication to residents in accordance with the Medication Policies and procedures.
3. To supervise and monitor the residents at regular intervals attending to individual needs with particular awareness of the personal safety of each one.
4. To ensure that all fire prevention policies and procedures and security management of the home is strictly adhered to and any concerns are immediately reported.
5. To ensure the compliance of a high level of infection control is maintained personally and throughout the home.
6. To ensure all risk assessments are adhered to and actioned as necessary, in line with policies and procedures.
7. To respond quickly, calmly and effectively to emergencies, following policies and procedures accurately.
8. To assist residents with physical movements in accordance with manual handling procedures as required.
9. As appropriate, to assist residents with their support equipment such as wheelchairs, aids, zimmer frames, spectacles or adaptations etc, and ensure that they are kept clean and in working condition.
10. To ensure all equipment used is in a safe working condition and report any faults immediately.
Administration and Communication
1. To ensure that all relevant policies, procedures and current legislation are understood, practiced and adhered to.
2. To use and update the Person Centred Software (PCS) digital system effectively for the management of resident's care plans; recording of activities and medication management, in accordance with the Home's policies and procedures
3. To record and maintain all digital and written records as required, reporting any concerns immediately to the person in charge.
4. To review the care plans of the residents for whom the Care Assistant is the keyworker, in accordance with person-centred requirements, and pass to the Senior Care Assistant for checking.
5. To ensure you work within the requirements of the Data Protection Act in all matters

6. To practice maximum integrity in all dealings with residents' personal and financial affairs, and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship that exists with residents.
7. To answer the door and the telephone appropriately, responding accordingly and to pass on messages promptly.
8. To liaise as required with visiting relatives, support services (e.g. GP) and team members, ensuring accurate communication and information is given in relation to residents' needs and the results reported to all as appropriate.
Teamwork and Training
1. To work as a member of a team; supporting and assisting fellow colleagues, including giving guidance to and support to new staff during their induction, leading by example.
2. To participate fully in handovers to staff at the beginning and end of each shift, aided by the digital care software.
3. To report all observations and concerns promptly to senior staff and on the PCS digital care software.
4. To participate in staff training and development programmes. Any mandatory training programmes must be undertaken as required (including safeguarding; manual handling; fire and smoke safety; First Aid: Infection Control, COSHH awareness etc) ensuring safe work practices are employed.
5. To be supported and enabled in skill development and personal development through regular supervision, training and annual appraisal in line with the Care Home's policies and procedures.
6. To attend and participate in regular staff meetings for reviews and updates.
The Environment
1. To undertake light housekeeping duties (e.g. laundry, cleaning, catering, room management etc.) as required and in keeping with residents wishes.
2. To ensure care for residents clothing is kept to quality standards - clean, laundered and labeled.
3. To ensure all areas of the home are kept tidy
4. To ensure visitors are made welcome and provide refreshments/assistance as and when required.
Personal conduct
1. To ensure personal compliance with the Care Home's and Charity's policies and procedures and all statutory regulations required in registered care homes at all times.
2. To practice under the regulations of the Care Quality Commission/ Care Inspectorate and any other regulatory bodies
3. To manage professional boundaries when carrying out all duties.
4. To respect and comply with the requirements for confidentiality and Data Protection in all matters relating to the residents, the staff and the business of the Care Home and the Charity.
5. To comply with the agreed conditions of employment; desired standards of behaviour, confidentiality, uniform, general appearance, personal hygiene, hours of duty, flexible duty rotas, time keeping etc.
6. To offer a flexible approach the role of Care Assistant taking into account the changing needs of residents, the service, and ongoing changes in regulatory requirements.
7. Due to the unpredictable and varied nature of life in a care home, all staff are expected to work in a flexible way when tasks not specifically in their job description have to be undertaken.
1. COVID-19 considerations: Appropriate PPE is worn by all staff and care home protocols in place as required.
2. The post holder must at all times carry out their responsibilities with due regard to the Charity's Equal Opportunities Statement.
3. The post holder must work in line with the Charity's Safeguarding People from Abuse Policy and Whistle Blowing Policy to ensure that people are kept safe at all times.
4. The post holder must carry out their responsibilities with due regard to the non-smoking environment of the Charity.
5. The post holder must accept responsibility for ensuring that the policies and procedures relating to Health and Safety in the workplace are adhered to at all times.
6. The post holder must respect the confidentiality of data stored electronically and by other means in line with the General Data Protection Regulation of 2018.
7. To undertake any other duties required by the Registered Care Manager which are commensurate with the general level of this post.

Qualifications (Scotland)
? Required to be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as Practitioners in a Care
Home Service for Adults. Cost of Registration is met by the Employee.
To register with the SSSC you must satisfy the criteria for registration. This includes holding, or agreeing to work towards, the appropriate qualifications for the post applied for.
Those who do not hold appropriate qualifications for the post would be expected to achieve this qualification within 18 months of start date. SAAS funding or Apprenticeship funding may be available.
