Visiting Angels Edinburgh East

are seeking compassionate individuals to join our team of Care Assistants. As a Care Assistant, you will be responsible for providing companionship and home help to older people to allow them to live independently in their own homes (some personal care required, eg assistance to the bathroom).

You do not need any home care experience or particular qualifications to become a Care Assistant and we encourage people with various backgrounds to apply. We provide FULL training from the start.

What does being a Care Assistant involve?

Being a Care Assistant/ Care Professional is a highly rewarding career where no two days are the same!

You will be introduced to all new clients and Care Professionals are matched to clients based on personality, background, hobbies and interests. This role is to support 3 clients with companionship primarily. You will have time to really get to know your clients, build trusting relationships allowing you to provide truly person-centred, quality care. The 3 clients have a variety of needs, but getting out into the community is a priority for all of them. 2 clients are based in Penicuik, and the third is based in the Duddingston area of Edinburgh. Each client has 2 visits per week between 3-4 hours for each visit.

Duties can include:

Companionship - ensuring a client enjoys regular and meaningful social interaction is an important part of your visit. Help with everyday tasks such as shopping, general household tasks and preparing fresh food - from scratch! Personal care - for this particular role, the level of personal care assistance is minimal, but essential.
Previous care experience is welcome, but not required. This could be from working in a care home, as a Healthcare Assistant, Support Worker, or in the NHS. It could also be from working as a volunteer, or personal experience of caring for a loved one.
