JOB TITLE:

Care Assistant reporting to Senior Carer on duty, responsible to the Registered Manager

General responsibilities of the position include:



1. Provide a high standard of care in an efficient, kind and respectful manner, preserving the dignity and self-respect of the resident at all times.

2. Be aware and maintain infection control measures. This includes understanding the importance of good Hand Hygiene; Respiratory Hygiene; Donning & Doffing of PPE; following the correct cleaning procedures, including how to clean spillages of bodily fluids, understanding how to deal with Laundry and the correct waste disposal streams

3. Maintain a smart and tidy appearance and always wear the correct uniform whilst on duty.

4. Mentor new members of staff as instructed.

5. Be prepared to do extra household or other duties on occasions as requested.

6. Maintain safety standards.

7. Report any accidents involving either staff or residents.

8. Comply with written and verbally agreed conditions and employment e.g. hours of duty, days of duty, timekeeping etc.

9. Ensure that any matters concerning residents are not discussed with other residents or outside the home.

10. Observance of Health and Safety requirements

11. Attend and complete regular training and fire drills as required.

Day to Day Duties



1. Receive handover from previous shift.

2. Carry out all the instructions of the Registered Manager/ Senior Carer in charge in an efficient and conscientious manner.

3. Update the electronic care planning system throughout the day to record interactions and activities to provide a detailed overall picture of what a residents needs have been.

4. Provide support and assistance for residents throughout the period of duty. This includes all aspects of personal hygiene, dressing, nutrition and social needs. Maintain a clean and tidy environment.

5. Report problems relating to odour and infection control.

6. Engage with and assist residents in social activities.

7. Ensure residents are dressed and groomed appropriately.

8. Ensure correct use of equipment in particular moving and handling.

9. Keep residents' rooms tidy and ensure correct sorting of linen and personal clothing.

10. Provide essential physical and mental stimulation by participating in recreational and social activities with residents, individually or in a group and assist the Activities Co-ordinator as required.

11. Always ensure, in conjunction with other members of staff, that the physical, emotional and social well being of each resident is maintained in a safe and homely environment.

12. Ensure that residents are offered choice and that their rights are acknowledged and preserved.

13. Report any obvious physical or mental change in the condition of every resident.

14. Respond to calls from residents.

15. Respond to visitor requests and demands in conjunction with Senior Carer in charge and offer visitors appropriate hospitality.
