Job Description

Care Assistant -

Requirements: Minimum age for employment, NVQ qualifications desirable. Overseas skilled worker living in UK will also be considered.

Report to: Senior in Charge on duty and Registered Manager

Responsible to: Manager/Deputy Matron/Head of Care

Main Duties and Responsibilities



Promote the good name of the Care Home at all time. Behave in a manner appropriate to the clinical setting and respect the authority of the Senior in Charge. Respect each patient's individuality and assist them in maintaining their identity, dignity, independence and safety. Any information regarding patients, their social circumstances, condition or treatment is confidential and is not to be discussed. Be aware of the home's policies and procedures relating to:
1. Care of the patients' property and valuables

2. Incidents and accidents to patients, staff and visitors

3. The disciplinary procedure

4. The policy for Health and Safety at work

5. Management of difficult or aggressive patients

6. The current uniform policy

7. The current sickness policy

Be aware of the working environment and report defects in equipment, damage, breakages or hazards. Meet the physical, emotional and social needs of patients in the following areas:
1. Personal hygiene, including assistance with bathing, care of skin, mouth, fingernails (not toe nails), hair etc. These daily duties performed for each of service users by you, you will responsible to make written records in appropriate place for audit by management

2. During dressing and grooming, you must take care of the patient. You must respect patients clothing and only use his or her clothes to dress them. You must not put any clothes on anybody if they do not belong to that client.

3. Assist with bed making and changing linen.

4. Nutrition: Assisting with preparation and serving of meals and drinks and assisting patient unable to feed themselves to ensure an adequate intake of fluid and nutrients.

5. Elimination: Assisting patients to use toilets, commodes or bedpans and removing and cleaning after use. Daily recording in the patients' care plan.

6. Mobility and Exercise: Assisting patients in and out of bed using safe lifting and handling techniques.

7. Recreational Activities: Assisting patients in appropriate creative therapy and activities, assisting with visits and other social functions. You must interact with the clients and speak to them before caring out your duties.

8. Keeping the patients' rooms clean and tidy at all times. Assist in the cleanliness and tidiness of common living and service areas, ensuring a safe environment.

9. Carry out all duties in such a way as to ensure the economic and safe use of resources and equipment

Be helpful and courteous to all relatives and visitors, referring enquiries about the patients' condition to the Nurse in Charge. Attend Fire instruction sessions and participate in in-service training programmes.
It is the responsibility of all employees to ensure that the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act are complied with, safe working practices are adhered and that any hazards are reported to the appropriate office immediately.
