TITLE: Carer
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Nurse in charge, Care Manager, and the Administrator.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Nurse in Charge, Senior Carer/ Team Leader
JOB SUMMARY: To assist the Nurses in their work, ensuring all residents receive the individual care required. The individual care includes but is not limited to personal hygiene, dressing residents appropriately, toileting, cleaning teeth and dentures, shaving, hair washing, feeding and resident observations. You will also be expected to assist with mobility, push wheelchairs, becoming adept with moving and handling including the use of hoists, electronic baths and shower chairs, change bedding, assist with laundry needs and become a key worker, responsible for the upkeep of a selection of resident's rooms and belongings, all training will be provided to complete the above.
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS: None, however they must be willing to undertake the Care Certificate and/or NVQ level 2 and 3 in Care, have a willingness to learn and a caring nature.
DESIRABLE: Certificates of competency in moving and handling and dealing with a fire. Experience in caring for older people, NVQ in care, care certificate. This job can be very physical at times and so a good level of fitness is desirable.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To understand and adhere to all policies and procedures of Blanchelande Park Nursing Home.
2. Under the direction of the Nurse in Charge to deliver the care required to individual residents.
3. To keep the sluice's clean and tidy.
4. Willingness to undertake NVQ training and any other course deemed appropriate by Matron.
5. To report any accident or untoward incident to the Nurse in Charge or the Care Manager.
6. To understand the fire policy within Blanchelande Park and be aware of the location and effective use of equipment available.
7. To attend annual updates on fire and moving and handling procedures.
8. To ensure the safe use of equipment and to report any problems with its use.
9. To observe safe moving and handling procedures and to implement them at all times.
10. To have the ability to work as a team member.
11. To have the necessary knowledge to carry out duties with adherence to the infection control policy of Blanchelande Park.
12. To keep the linen cupboard's clean and tidy.
13. To be willing to work in different areas of the Home depending on staffing levels.
14. To assist in the distribution of drinks and with the meals to the residents.
15. All staff must maintain confidentiality in all matters in relation to staff, management, and residents.
