Main responsibilities
:
To actively read, review and refresh on care plans and risk assessments of service users - Providing appropriate services as outlined.
To assist Service Users with personal care which includes : using the bath ; foot and nail care ; shampooing hair ; helping a client shave ; combing or brushing hair ; mouth care ; denture care ; helping a Service User use the toilet facilities inc catheter care and incontinent aids {when applicable}.
To assist Service Users in getting out of bed, washing and dressing. This carried out with patience and empathy {when applicable i.e. Respite Service Users}.
To complete accurate, detailed & factual legal documentation of all activities, including;
Personal care - Detailing Choice & Consent
Nutrition & Hydration - recording quantities consumed and choices
Completion of Food & Fluid Chart - Where Applicable
Completion of weight charts as per care plan
Continence checks - where pads have been changed, bowels open and the type (Bristol Stool Chart)
Including 7 day continence Assessments - when Applicable
o Repositioning - including the positioning and aids to support
o Activities and entertainment including participation and refusal
o Visual checks - and concerns found
o Accidents, incidents and falls - including paper documentation
o Skin integrity concerns
o General Health Concerns including behaviours
o MAR Sheets - Cream application
To respond to the call bells timely responding to individuals requesting assistance
To comply with the homes Health & Safety, COSHH and Environmental Health regulations.
To comply with latest infection prevention regulations and practices throughout the home
Attend and contribute to staff appraisal meetings.
To maintain confidentiality on all aspects of care and your work within the home.
To have a working knowledge of the homes policies and procedures.
To establish good relationships with the Service Users, relatives, colleagues, and other people visiting the home.
To assist clients in preparing for bed, including washing and undressing, offering reassurance and comfort.
To assist service users individual needs as outlined in care plans & risk assessments.
To support service users with mobility requirements as per moving & handling risk assessments, following equipment legislation
To carry out regular checks throughout the night {where instructed} taking into account the Service Users privacy. {when applicable}
To carry out regular security and fire protection checks throughout the night time period. {when applicable}
Helping the Service Users with physical and mental activity, this could involve talking to them, taking them out for a walk or day trip, reading to them, writing on their behalf, assisting with their hobbies and recreational activities.
To carry out all occupation therapies as dictated by the Activity Reports.
To participate and co-ordinate meaningful activities and support external entertainers in the home
To obtain following specimens for analysis ; blood, urine, faecal, and sputum {this only if you have been trained and are confident in performing these duties}.
Assist with serving meals and other domestic duties including food preparation including probing of cooked products in the evening and completing laundry throughout your shift. Assist Service Users with eating of their meals if required.
To communicate to registered manager if any serious or unsafe events occur.
Answer emergency bells , greet visitors, answer the telephone and door.
To have working knowledge of homes emergency procedures.
Ensuring care notes and any other form of written report that affects your work are read and kept up to date.
Attend internal and external training as required and complete all allocated mandatory training within your probation period
Maintain a smart and professional appearance.
To wear appropriate PPE as outlined in the Personal Protective Equipment Policy when supporting individuals with personal care, continence checks and application of all creams and ointments.
Undertake a responsible attitude towards economy, care of equipment, and property.
Work alongside other colleagues to ensure safe practices are being carried out on every shift.
To ensure all residents receive person-centred quality care.
Commitment to supporting and promoting independence for service users on a short term contract.
Understanding and ability to professional support individuals and their families where EOL or palliative care is in place.
To adhere to A&L Care Home Policies and procedures including mobile phones, absence reporting and break allocations.
To bring to work appropriate equipment, including pens to enable documentation to be completed as appropriate.
BREAKFAST / KITCHEN ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION
Key Responsibilities
To prepare and present breakfast to all residents meeting nutritional and hydration needs
To assist the cook to serve Lunch to the residents
To assist with preparation of foods such as sandwiches, boiled eggs and grated cheese, etc..
To check the menu on each shift and complete any required preparation for the evening meal including individual requests.
To be aware of the special diets that may be required
To complete the morning drinks trolley and collect all used cups and breakfast equipment prior to lunch time.
To dispose of food waste/rubbish before finishing your shift
To help prepare trolley/cutlery for lunch and to ensure that trolley is collected promptly, to wash lunch dishes before 1.30pm
To load the dishwasher and/or wash-up by hand, ensure that resident's lunch dishes are washed in dishwasher for next mealtime.
To ensure the kitchen is left to a high level of cleanliness before leaving your shift, not leaving until this is the case
To assist/ put away any supplies delivered to the Home (Delivery day)
General
To attend and participate in staff meetings and attend all mandatory training, supervision and appraisals, when required
To communicate effectively with other staff, relatives and visitors including professional agencies regarding residents
To be fully aware of the fire policy and the awareness of food hygiene regulations, ensuring adherence to the Homes Health and Safety Policy and Procedures
To wear uniform provided with plain black trousers and flat sensible shoes at all times
Ensure that you do not use a mobile telephone while on duty
Understand your duty to whistleblow if you witness bad practice or harm to a resident within the Home

To take responsibility for your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your acts or omissions
To be fully aware and comply with infection control policies and procedures and appropriate hand hygiene technique
To report immediately to the person in charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a resident, colleague, self or another
To report to the Management, Maintenance man or person in charge of any faults, damaged equipment or any potential hazard.
