Job Summary:



Ensure the smooth and efficient running of the surgery, assisting the General Practitioners in providing a service to the patients.

Signpost patients to the appropriate healthcare professional or service in a polite and efficient manner.

Maintain a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.

Provide assistance to all members of the practice team as appropriate.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:



Provide an effective and efficient reception service to patients and visitors, advise of where to go on their arrival at the practice. Using the telephone and face to face at the Reception desk, make appointments for patients. Make new and follow-up appointments using the EMIS computerised appointments system, entering patient information on to the computer as required. Action requests for repeat prescriptions and record queries for prescriptions using the computer. Explain practice registration arrangements to new patients and to patients needing temporary cover. Record requests for home visits and notify Doctors and/or ANP as appropriate. Deal with telephone enquiries from patients relating to test results and basic hospital letters. Deal with all general enquiries, receive and make telephone calls as required. Contact patients to make telephone or face to face appointments. Undertake opening and locking up procedures of the premises as required, ensuring the premises are tidy and secure at the end of the day. Provide cover for colleagues' holiday and sickness leave when required . Understand and adhere to confidentiality procedure. Perform any other reasonable duties which may be necessary for the efficient running of the practice.
