As a Care & Repair Caseworker (Specialist Support), you'll work directly with older people across Newport, helping them stay safe, warm, and independent in their own homes. You will provide tailored advice and assistance on adaptations and repairs to enable older people live independently, or to allow for a discharge from hospital. We'll support you to grow your knowledge and skills, with access to learning, networks, and opportunities to influence how our service evolves. You'll be part of a friendly, values-driven team that puts people first.


Where does this role fit in?



You'll be part of Newport Care & Repair, working within the Pobl Group. Our mission is to support older homeowners and private renters to stay in homes that meet their needs.


In this role, you'll:


Visit people in their homes or local venues to talk through housing concerns and find practical solutions Offer clear, accessible advice about help available -- from grants and benefits to home repairs and adaptations Coordinate technical surveys and repairs with trusted contractors Refer or signpost people to other local support services when needed Build strong relationships with Social Services, Housing, Health teams, and voluntary groups Promote the service through events and meetings with local communities
You'll report to the Care & Repair Manager and work closely with the wider team to ensure our service is inclusive, responsive, and high quality.


What skills and experience do you need?



We're looking for someone who is kind, dependable, and motivated by helping others. You don't need to know everything on day one -- we'll provide training -- but the following experience and skills will really help:


Experience supporting older or vulnerable people Experience working with external agencies (e.g. health, housing, or voluntary sector) Good written and spoken communication skills Confidence to work on your own initiative and as part of a team Basic IT skills (e.g. using email and Word) A full, clean UK driving licence A good understanding of equality, diversity, and the challenges some communities face An awareness of the housing and wellbeing needs of older and disabled people

What are the pay and benefits?



The exact salary for this part-time, permanent position (22.5 hours per week) is 19,117. Our standard days for our team are Monday to Friday. We're happy to discuss a working pattern that suits the successful candidate's part-time hours. We offer flexible working arrangements. While the base location is Newport, our team works both in the community and on a hybrid bas 26 days holiday entitlement plus Bank holidays, rising to 30 days (Pro rata) with length of service The successful candidate will need a basic DBS check in place, which we pay for.
