Bellsgrove Care Home is a 15 bed family-run care home situated in Fetcham, Surrey. This spacious home provides specialised care for older people, including those living with dementia.
The role of the Care Support Worker is to provide a safe and caring environment and offer a professional service, which is dedicated to the encouragement of each resident into happy, capable and valued members of society and to provide care throughout the day, for each individual service user, thereby ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
Responsibilities and Duties
To be aware of and work in accordance with the Home's values, policy and procedures at all times.
To take full responsibility for the well-being and care of all residents, and the maintenance of the Home during the shift and to take appropriate action as required.
To carry out regular checks on all residents throughout the shift according to each individual's needs as outlined in their care plan.
To keep accurate records and care notes on all service users using a digital system.
Complying with all day-time checks and monitoring e.g. for pressure mattresses, turning charts, challenging behaviour, hydration and nutrition, one-to-one observations etc.
To become familiar with Bellsgrove's health and safety, infection control and fire regulations and observe them at all times.
Establish good working relationships and co-operate fully with the management team, families and other professionals.
Assist each service user in optimizing their physical and mental functioning by supporting them according to the care plan, risk assessments and moving and handling assessments. This will include include social support, washing, dressing, assisting with feeding and drinking incontinence care and medication.
To report any problems to senior staff as required according to urgency.
To produce and maintain accurate shift records and to ensure that both written and verbal communication conforms with the highest professional standards at all times.
To undertake daily medication audits.
To provide full proactive, active and reactive support to service users and team members during difficult situations of challenging behaviour.
To undertake domestic duties including cleaning and laundry according to cleaning schedules and any additional requirements for each shift.
To check the menu folder, in preparation for de-frosting or preparing any food, in sufficient time for meals.
To ensure that the physical well-being of all service users is safeguarded by the appropriate use of any services they may require, e.g. doctor.
To be conversant, and act in accordance with the call bell system.
When requested, to attend functions/meetings/training within Bellsgrove.
To contribute to the consultation processes relating to service developments within the Home.
To be fully aware of situations which might involve Bellsgrove in adverse or sensitive publicity and to take advice from line management.
To maintain professional, informative, friendly, sympathetic relationships with family and friends.
Carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the post as directed by the Registered Manager.
To promote a positive image of older adult and dementia care generally.
To ensure that your conduct within and outside of Bellsgrove does not conflict with the professional expectations of Bellsgrove.
To highlight any areas of concern accordingly, in line with Bellsgrove's Safeguarding Policy and to be committed and responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable adults and children.
Maintain confidentiality for all areas of work within Bellsgrove. The nature of work within care entrusts people with confidential information about individual service users and their families. Any breach of confidentiality may constitute gross misconduct.
To undertake any further tasks and roles as fits the remit of the position.
Required Education, Skills and Qualifications
Although full training will be given, candidates with experience of working with with people with dementia, and within a Care Home setting or with NVQ level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care will be given preference.
Demonstrate ongoing professional development.
The candidate must have an good standard of spoken and written English.
Demonstrate excellent communication skills in order to liaise with residents, staff, the residents' families, friends, other health professionals, local authorities, local councils, voluntary bodies and any other associations related to the care for the elderly.
A valid UK driving license is preferred.
