About Elders Voice

Elders Voice is a charity supporting older people in the London Borough of Brent. Our mission is to enable older people to live safely and independently in the homes of their choosing and lead healthier and happier lives. We do this by providing a variety of services and activities, including a Day Centre and a Handyperson Service.

The Elders Voice Day Centre is for older people living with dementia or experiencing isolation and in need of companionship. Our aim is to enrich the wellbeing of the individuals that attend and we provide a variety of activities including yoga, dance, baking, games, arts & crafts and much more!

About the role

We are looking for a Care Worker to work in our Day Centre for a minimum of one day a week, and provide holiday/sickness cover for our existing staff team. You will assist in the day to day running of the Centre; helping the team maintain a happy & safe environment and attending to our clients' needs in a thoughtful and sensitive way. You will work a minimum of 7 hours a week, plus additional hours throughout the year when required. We are looking for someone who is flexible and able to take on additional hours at short notice.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Help serve refreshments and lunch to clients. Support clients with toileting and personal hygiene. Encourage clients to take part in activities, and support them in doing so. Include clients in decision making and take into consideration their hobbies and interests when facilitating activities. Liaise with clients' families in a polite and professional manner when necessary. Ensure compliance with equality, diversity & inclusion, health & safety and safeguarding policies.

Person Specification

NVQ Level 2 or 3 Social Care or equivalent qualification - Desirable Minimum of two years' experience of working with older people or lived experience of caring for a family member - Essential An understanding of the needs of older people living with dementia and the challenges they face - Desirable A cheerful, compassionate and caring nature, with the ability to build trusting relationships with your colleagues, clients and their families - Essential Good oral and written communication skills - Essential Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team - Essential Understanding of equality, diversity & inclusion, health & safety and safeguarding, and the ability to apply this knowledge in a work environment - Essential You have the right to work in the UK (We do not offer any form of sponsorship) -Essential
