Job Description

This is an exciting new role aimed at supporting the editorial growth and sustainability of Cambridge Elements. Successful candidates will support Commissioning Editors in managing and maintaining existing series, along with seeking to commission new Elements series across select subject areas. Beyond this, a more centralised approach to Elements commissioning aims to implement further consistency and best practice across the programme.

About the role
With a strong emphasis on collaboration within both the subject and the wider Elements team, the role combines creative commissioning with advanced project management.
Some of the key aspects of the role include:

  • Providing administrative support to Commissioning Editors, working collaboratively to maintain a coherent and relevant academic Elements list.
  • Commissioning new Elements series in specified subject areas in accordance with agreed financial and commissioning targets.
  • To manage a list of previously commissioned series, working collaboratively with the existing Commissioning Editor(s) to handover management tasks, establishing and maintaining good relationships with Series Editors and Commissioning Editors.
  • To develop the skills and experience in order to build and maintain strong series editors, author and other external relationships to protect and enhance the reputation of the Press.
  • Be proactive in identifying process/workflow improvements and understand how own work contributes to the end customer experience.

You're a driven and organised individual, who thrives in a collaborative role. You should have a good understanding of academic publishing landscape and a proven ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders. The ability to learn and develop your understanding of commissioning strategy and subject knowledge is fundamental to this role, with successful candidates required to make key decisions related to commissioning direction and editorial quality. You should also have a strong command of administrative work, attention to detail, and sense of time management.
