UCL Careers

UCL Careers provides careers education to current students, graduates and staff of UCL, as well as recruitment solutions for employers. UCL Careers provides a \xe2\x80\x98core\xe2\x80\x99 service for students as well as bespoke support within some academic areas.

About the role

This role will be part of a twelve strong team focused on developing and delivering careers education provision for the students in twenty-eight departments across the faculties of Built Environment, Engineering and Mathematical and Physical Sciences.

In addition, the Careers Consultant will conduct central one-to-one careers guidance appointments, and work collaboratively on a range of projects with colleagues from the wider UCL Careers team.

Core duties include:
  • Developing students careers management skills via a range of learning activities
  • Conducting a range of one to one guidance interactions to support clients
  • Developing strategic relationships with colleagues, academic staff, and other stakeholders
  • Undertaking collaborative projects to create products and services
  • Using data to identify and prioritise the most effective career development activities
  • Maintaining an up-to-date understanding of recruitment practices
  • Developing knowledge of the graduate labour market, and the HE sector

About you

Careers Consultants will be expected to work occasional flexible hours (weekday evenings). The majority of in-person student facing activity will take place at UCL\xe2\x80\x99s Bloomsbury campus.

The ideal candidate for this role will demonstrate the following:
  • mentoring/coaching others and supporting their personal development
  • planning and managing areas of work to a high standard and agreed objectives/outcomes
  • communicating appropriately with a range of audiences in a variety of different situations
  • high-level professional and interpersonal skills required to build successful working alliances
  • using qualitative and quantitative information to improve the effectiveness of activities
  • planning, prioritising and implementing long-term projects as part of a busy workload
  • identifying personal strengths/weaknesses, and a willingness to develop, adapt and learn
  • willingness and ability to seek new and better ways to deliver an excellent service
  • maintaining motivation and resilience in demanding situations
  • thinking independently and responding appropriately to the demands of the situation
  • a strong commitment to the values of equality and diversity
