This is a permanent role starting in September 2025.

Cotham School, a successful, vibrant and diverse 11-18 comprehensive school, wishes to appoint an excellent Careers Leader who will provide information, advice and guidance to support students in making informed, ambitious career decisions, as well as developing, promoting and embedding careers and work-related learning activities in all year groups across the school from Year 7-13.

The successful candidate will be an innovative and creative thinker, able to work on their own initiative, with strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The post holder will offer Impartial and Objective Careers Information, Advice and Personal Guidance to students at Cotham School and develop, promote and embed the Gatsby Benchmarks across all year groups Years 7 to 13 including responsibility for oversight of the Work Experience programmes.

KEY JOB OUTCOMES



Ensure that every student receives accurate, impartial and up-to-date information, advice and guidance at appropriate times in their journey through school (Y7-Y13) to raise their aspirations and help them make good decisions about their choices for future study, training and employment, leading to high-quality progression after school. Ensure that the national Gatsby Benchmarks are achieved through an excellent programme of careers education and work-related learning and activities, enabling the school to achieve the Quality in Careers Standard. Keep parents and carers informed about relevant careers and work-related learning developments and opportunities and provide impartial advice when required. Manage the Cotham School alumni community and use alumni to support careers and work-related learning activities.

ACCOUNTABILITIES



Work effectively across the school with the Senior Leadership Team, Post 16 Team, Curriculum Team Leaders, Learning Coordinators, Inclusion Team, Tutor teams and other professionals. Manage the agreed budget for the Careers Department. Forge effective links with relevant outside agencies, including education and training providers, universities and employers. Monitor and respond to national developments in CEIAG and employability and transferable skills to ensure that the school complies with Government guidelines and expectations.

Attend relevant training and CPD in order to keep up-to-date with school and professional requirements. Ensure that output and quality of work is of a high standard and complies with current legislation / standards.

DUTIES



Strategic Leadership:



Create and implement the annual CEIAG and employability and transferable skills programme, contributing to the whole school development plan and ensuring that the Gatsby Benchmarks are met, thus enabling the school to achieve the Quality in Careers Standard via the Investors in Careers award. Develop and lead initiatives relating to careers and work-related learning within the school, creating appropriate resources as needed and supporting staff in the delivery of activities, via INSET if required. Collaborate with key stakeholders including Safeguarding Team, SENDCo and other pastoral leaders to ensure that all vulnerable students are included in the CEIAG programme and the programme is sufficiently differentiated to accommodate their needs. Use the Compass+ system and other reporting platforms to track, evaluate and review the "Futures" provision for Years 7-13. Undertake the relevant CPD required to maintain the CDI register membership and maintain an up to date and professional outlook towards the world of employment and training.

Communicating to stakeholders:



Work collaboratively across SEND/SG/EAL/YT to support all Year 11 students to secure an intended destination. Year 11 Student Progress Records will be shared with SG/SEND/EAL/YT so that their own 1:1 sessions can be informed when discussing students future aspirations Coordinate and lead Year 11 Futures Workshops - external providers from world of work, universities and apprenticeship providers offer advice and guidance to all year 11 students about next steps after GCSEs Work collaboratively with Post 16 staff to support Year 12 Foundation and Year 13 students intended destinations, identifying students who are at Risk of NEET, actioning appropriate interventions and communicating this to SLT and governors. Liaise effectively with parents/ carers, employers, education and training providers, higher education institutions, partner organisations and agencies, building networks that provide opportunities for students, and attend Careers Best Practice and other local partnership meetings. Provide CEIAG to students and parents at Open Evenings, Parents' Evenings, Options Evenings, on GCSE and A-Level Results Days and at other events as required. Ensure information about careers and opportunities is disseminated as appropriate to students, parents and carers and staff, via a range of channels including email, school website, Futures bulletin and Post-16 Student Hub, weekly bulletin to parent and carers, noticeboards, Google Classroom and social media.

Curriculum:



Provide specialist support to 11-19 teachers to identify curriculum space where employer input would be useful. Deliver careers and empl activities when appropriate, including in lessons, tutor programme, pop-ups, assemblies / Y12 Core and the Post-16 Futures launch and conferences. Choose appropriate careers and employability related resources and software and ensure these are current. Liaising with the SMSC Coordinator (PSHE Teacher) to jointly deliver a coordinated careers programme through assemblies and SMSC Coordinator lessons.

Enrichment:



Organise and manage trips and activities relating to careers and work-related learning. Coordinate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) extra-curricular activities across the school, in collaboration with subject teachers. Engage the Cotham alumni community in the support of careers and work-related learning activities

Personal Guidance:



Conduct 1:1 Personal Career Guidance interviews with students as appropriate, e.g. Year 9 re. GCSE choices, Y11 re. Post-16 choices and Y12-13 re. post-18 choices, using whole school assessment and SEND data to target advice, and maintain a spreadsheet of meetings and actions shared with all in-school stakeholders. Meet with parents and carers, where requested, to consider a student's future options. Act as a source of expert help on careers and future learning options for students, parents and colleagues, responding to both personal and email enquiries. Manage relationships with post secondary providers and a programme of visits and other forms of engagement for the most at risk of NEET students, promoting equal opportunities

Line management:



Supervise and support the work of the Careers Assistant/Work Experience Coordinator. Manage the agreed budget for the Careers Department.
