The Role
Are you practical, reliable, and take pride in keeping buildings safe and looking their best? We are seeking a committed
Lead Caretaker
to join our team at Crossways Schools and play a vital role in ensuring the security, cleanliness, and smooth day-to-day running of our school premises.
This is a varied and hands-on role where no two days are the same. You will take the lead on opening and securing the site, completing minor repairs, monitoring health and safety, supporting contractors, and making sure our buildings and grounds are safe, welcoming and ready for pupils, staff and visitors each day.
As part of this role, you will also carry out routine compliance checks, respond to occasional emergencies or call-outs. The role involves physical activity and outdoor work throughout the year, contributing to a clean, tidy and safe environment for our whole school community.
We are looking for someone who is:
Experienced in caretaking, site management, facilities or building maintenance
Practical and confident carrying out day-to-day repairs
Knowledgeable about (or willing to train in) health & safety requirements
Responsible and reliable, especially around site security and safety
Highly organised with the ability to plan, prioritise and manage a varied workload
Able to work independently, using initiative and problem-solving skills
Physically capable of carrying out manual tasks, such as lifting and moving equipment
Calm, approachable and able to build positive working relationships
Confident using basic IT systems for logging jobs, compliance checks and email
Committed to safeguarding and the wellbeing of children
Willing to undertake relevant training and continuous professional development

Crossways Schools -- made up of Crossways Infant School and Crossways Junior School -- are friendly, welcoming primary settings located in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire (BS35).
