Job Description

We're excited to be recruiting an additional Caretaker to join our wonderful team across all our sites within our small chain of childcare settings in the north east of England.

Please note

: this is a full time position and the applicant must be flexible with main hours being Monday to Friday between 7.30am and 6.30pm with occasional weekend work when required.

You may be required to use your own vehicle at times so business insurance is an advantage.

Skill's involving joinery, plumbing, electrics and painting would be an advantage.

Main Responsibilities

The job description to aid you in delivering your role is outlined below:

Security



Ensure that the buildings and site are secure in terms of maintenance issues, and take remedial action as necessary. Ensure that the security of the property is properly maintained, including gates, doors, windows and other security risks are managed effectively and that an appropriate response is made in the event of a property related incident. Being a point of contact in an emergency call out situation. Take responsibility for overall security of the buildings including maintenance of the windows, shutters and doors, maintaining the alarm system with the professional contractor and ensuring the security systems are maintained in car park areas and grounds.

Facilities



Ensure that clear passages are maintained for fire escape routes externally, when you are working on each site. Undertake general porterage tasks that ensure the efficient movement of goods, equipment, furniture and other items around and within the sites. When you are on a site, ensure that the external areas of the property are kept free of litter and debris, that litter and rubbish bins are emptied regularly and main access routes are kept clear of leaves, snow and ice as necessary. When you are on a site, ensure that all ventilation, access and exit points operate effectively and that fire fighting appliances are readily accessible. Ensure an agreed safe, secure storage area on each site where appropriate, and ensure the storage areas are maintained by you, to allow others when you are not there, to use them safely.

Maintenance



Identify and undertake appropriate minor repairs (i.e. those not requiring qualified craftsperson) and maintenance of the buildings and site, including painting and decorating, (for example replacement of skirting boards, repairs/replacements of doors/gates, replacement of broken coat pegs as examples.) Follow a schedule of repair and maintenance so that equipment, furniture, fixtures and fittings and outside areas are regularly and systematically checked and are safe to be used by staff and children. Complete regular safety checks around the building and grounds to ensure that health and safety standards are maintained and systematically checked using the in-house checklists. Complete daily, weekly, monthly and annual cleaning/maintenance/checks schedules and ensure that these are regularly reviewed. Monitor and manage maintenance programmes that are needed outside of nursery operating hours Basic grounds maintenance - gardening, snow clearing, salting during adverse weather, litter picking, bin emptying. Vehicle Maintenance, road worthy and cleanliness checks. To make sure that the company vehicle is always in a respectable condition, safe to drive and ready to transport children. Whilst transporting tools between sites they should be safely and securely stored. Pest control- regularly check internal and external of sites. Changing and maintaining indoor bait boxes every 3/6 months. To prevent and report any damage done to buildings by pests and to contact a qualified pest control expert should an incident occur.

Other duties



Maintain a safe and secure storage of any tools, ensuring they are kept away from children at all times and stored safely in the agreed, risk assessed spaces. Ensure you maintain professionalism at all times in your role both with staff and with parents and external professionals. Perform duties in line with health and safety and COSHH regulations and take action where hazards are identified, report serious hazards to your line manager immediately. To drive between sites when needed and to operate a clean driving licence at all times and adhering to the Driving Policy that is in place. General maintenance and regular cleaning of the company vehicle..

Performance Management



The Caretaker will:

Take part in regular performance management in line with the company's performance management systems. Act upon feedback and advice and be open to coaching, mentoring and taking part in further training relevant to the role. Take part fully in the corporate life of Little Angels. Undertake any other reasonable and relevant duties in accordance with the changing needs of the company.

General



The Caretaker will take on specific tasks related to the day to day site management and organisation of Little Angels as requested by your line manager; take on any additional responsibilities that might from time to time be determined; and engage with appropriate training opportunities to promote professional effectiveness in this role.

Whilst every effort has been made to explain the main duties and responsibilities to the post, each individual task undertaken may not be identified and all staff will be expected to undertake additional reasonable tasks as directed by your line manager or the area manager.

Please note that there are physical requirements of this role which involve activities such as walking, stretching, lifting and operating cleaners, occasionally working at heights, and using equipment such as ladders, lawnmowers, hedge cutters etc.

Pay: 12.89 per hour
