About the Role
We're looking for a reliable and proactive Caretaker to join our Facilities Maintenance team in Cambridge. You'll be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep, safety, and cleanliness of buildings and communal areas, ensuring they remain in excellent condition for residents, staff, and visitors.
This is a hands-on role requiring practical skills, a strong sense of responsibility, and a commitment to delivering high standards of service. You'll work independently and as part of a wider team, supporting planned and reactive maintenance tasks across multiple sites.
Role ResponsibilitiesCarry out general building maintenance including basic plumbing and carpentry
Conduct regular inspections of communal areas, plant rooms, and external grounds
Ensure cleanliness of entrances, corridors, stairwells, bin stores, and outdoor spaces
Replace light bulbs, unblock sinks/toilets, and repair minor fixtures and fittings
Monitor and report any health and safety hazards or building defects
Support contractors and tradespeople on site, ensuring access and safety compliance
Manage waste disposal and recycling, including moving bins and bulky items
Respond to emergency maintenance issues and escalate where necessary
Maintain security of buildings including locking/unlocking premises and checking alarms
Carry out fire alarm tests, emergency lighting checks, and other compliance routines
Keep accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities
Ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety regulations and company procedures
Provide excellent customer service to residents, staff, and visitors
Role CriteriaPrevious experience in a caretaker, facilities, or maintenance role
Experience in the above duties
Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and general building repairs
Understanding of health and safety practices, including manual handling and COSHH
Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Physically fit and able to carry out manual tasks
Basic IT literacy for logging tasks and reporting issues
Full UK driving licence
