Working Hours:



Monday to Friday: 1:30pm - 9:00pm (with 30 minute unpaid daily break) Saturday & Sunday: 7:00am - 9:30am

Salary:



25,789.90

per annum Alternatively, 21,899 per annum with an Accommodation Allowance of 3,890.90
We are currently seeking a dedicated and proactive Caretaker & Maintenance Assistant to join our Estate team. This is a live-in position, ideal for someone who takes pride in maintaining safe, secure, and well-functioning environments. Working across weekdays and weekends, you'll play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the school--ensuring buildings are secure, systems are running smoothly, and events are well supported. From locking up premises and responding to alarms, to assisting with repairs, lettings, and school functions, this is a hands-on role that offers variety, responsibility, and the chance to be part of a vibrant school community.

Key Responsibilities



Security & Access



Lock all school buildings each evening, ensuring alarms are activated and considering any lettings or contractors on site. Operate the school's access and security systems. Respond appropriately to burglar and fire alarms, including contacting emergency services and logging incidents.

Maintenance & Repairs



Address requests related to heating, electrical systems, flooding, drainage, kitchen equipment, and pest control. Escalate unresolved issues to the Estate Manager or relevant contractors. Assist with emergency lighting tests and conduct regular gas and electricity meter readings. Support general building maintenance, including: Internal and external upkeep Basic plumbing and drainage Carpentry tasks Operate maintenance machinery and report any defects promptly.

Facilities & Events Support



Provide access and ensure security for lettings. Assist with scenery setup for school performances. Support school events (e.g. Sports Day, Prize Giving, Bonfire Night) through marshalling and general tasks. Set up furniture and equipment for school activities and events. Help maintain the school's two swimming pools.

Grounds & Transport



When not engaged in caretaking or maintenance, carry out general grounds tasks as directed. Drive school minibuses and other vehicles as required.

Health & Safety



Ensure all tasks are performed in line with relevant risk assessments and method statements. Report any concerns to the Estate Manager.

Flexibility



Provide other occasional weekend and evening support for school events and activities. Undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Estate Manager or Director of Finance and Operations.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience of general buildings maintenance and is proficient in the use of various power tools; large and small as well as be able to demonstrate a proactive approach to their work.
