Job Purpose

The Carpenter will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of planned, reactive, routine, and non-routine carpentry and joinery works across Client premises. The role involves ensuring all maintenance, repair, and installation activities are completed to a high standard while complying with health & safety regulations, Client policies, and statutory requirements. The post holder will contribute to maintaining a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors.



Key Responsibilities

Carry out carpentry and joinery works, including repairs, installations, refurbishments, and planned preventative maintenance across Client sites. Interpret and work from drawings, specifications, and instructions with minimal supervision. Operate carpentry tools, machinery, and equipment safely and in compliance with legislative and statutory guidance. Undertake glazing repairs, installation and repair of metal and fibre ceilings, and associated maintenance tasks. Support additional maintenance activities such as locksmith work, scaffolding, and use of woodworking machinery as required. Carry out inspections and maintenance in line with planned preventative maintenance schedules and statutory guidance. Communicate effectively with ward managers, departmental staff, patients, visitors, and other colleagues while maintaining confidentiality in clinical areas. Participate in the operation of the Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system, ensuring accurate completion of job tickets, documentation, and timesheets. Work at height, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions when required. Share responsibility for supporting and guiding carpenter apprentices when applicable. Learn and adopt new techniques through training as required to meet service needs. Comply with all Client policies, including health & safety, infection prevention, data protection, confidentiality, and risk management. Ensure all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, contributing to service improvements and efficient use of resources. Be available for recall to work for out-of-hours emergency situations when required. Uphold Client values at all times, demonstrating safe, kind, and professional behaviour towards patients, visitors, and colleagues. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required to meet operational needs.

Qualifications

The postholder must be able to demonstrate competency and qualifications in:


Completion of a full Carpentry / Joinery Apprenticeship City & Guilds trade certificate NVQ Level 2 trade certificate or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
