Introduction -



Production Solutions Group is looking to appoint a skilled Carpenter to join our Workshop team .

You should be committed to high quality work and have a keen interest in working across the theatre / events industry. You will be joining our evolving team as we look ahead to numerous exciting projects which are coming up, providing excellent service to our clients across the country.

The Carpenter role encompasses excellent woodworking skills, a good understanding of workshop practices, and the ability to work as part of a team delivering creative projects to tight deadlines.

Key Duties and Responsibilities



Construction & Assembly



Build, fit and finish scenic elements including sets, props, and staging from technical drawings or verbal instructions.

Work with various types of material where required.

Carry out precise joinery, cutting, shaping, and assembly using both hand tools and workshop machinery.

Ensure all builds are safe, structurally sound, and finished to a high artistic standard.

Workshop & Materials Oversight



Ensure quality control across all workshop outputs, from structural integrity to surface finishes.

Maintain good stock keeping on our stock management system.

Workshop Practices



Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.

Use tools, machinery and equipment responsibly, carrying out maintenance where required.

Work with other members of the team in builds, assisting with lifting, assembly etc as required.

Follow and promote safe working practices, complying with all health and safety regulations.

Collaboration & Communication



Work closely with the Workshop Director and Project Manager, designers and team members to deliver projects on time.

Communicate effectively with the wider team to ensure clarity on requirements.

Support occasional onsite fitups, installation at theatres.

Finishing & Detailing



Assist with scenic finishing, such as sanding, filling, priming and basic painting.

Where required, support integration of set electrics, rigging or metal work with carpentry elements.

General



To always track sustainability within the department and model best practice in terms of environmental responsibility.

Always maintain excellent relationships with external contractors and suppliers.

To engage and contribute meaningfully to development of Production Solutions Group and its subsidiaries Business Plan, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan and Sustainability Plan.

To maintain good relations with industry bodies representing the company's interest within trade union negotiations or other environments in the sector.

To uphold and embody the Company's policies, including but not limited to our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy, Dignity at Work policy and Health and Safety policy.

Any other reasonable duties that arise to fulfil the objectives of Production Solutions Group and its subsidiaries.

Person Specification



Experience



Essential



Proven experience as a carpenter, joiner or set builder in a workshop for theatre / events.

Strong practical skills in woodworking and joinery, with proficiency in using a wide range of tools and machinery.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD plans.

Knowledge of materials and construction methods used in scenic carpentry, including wood, steel, paint and finishes.

Awareness of health and safety procedures in a workshop setting.

Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, or onsite installation as per business requirements.

Knowledge of Vectorworks or other CAD software.

Ability to prioritise.

Ability to problem solve using a methodical approach.

Proven experience of working within internal and external teams.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels within and outside of the organisation.

Ability to work under pressure, meeting deadlines and work under own initiative.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Committed to environmental sustainability.

Excellent time management skills.

Attention to detail.

Computer literate on MS applications.

Desirable



Qualification or training in carpentry, joinery, or technical theatre.

Good understanding of technical equipment.

Working knowledge of current Health and Safety Legislation and its application in a theatre / event setting.

Full clean driving license.

Knowledge of Theatre Green Book and Julie's Bicycle and / or Carbon Literacy Training.

First Aid Qualification.

Pay: 35,000.00-40,000.00 per year
