The Opportunity
You'll play an important role in supporting the delivery of practical, skills-based learning within the Construction department. You'll use your industry experience to provide hands-on training and guidance to our learners who are preparing for a career in the trade or looking to develop their existing skills. Working with a team of experienced colleagues, you'll contribute to the growth and success of our students at all levels, ensuring they gain the competence and confidence needed to succeed in the construction industry.
You'll deliver practical sessions and demonstrations, helping our learners develop their technical skills in areas such as first and second fix carpentry, bench joinery, and interpreting construction drawings. You'll assess our learners' work, provide constructive feedback, and maintain accurate records of progress and performance. You'll also take responsibility for maintaining a safe, well-organised workshop environment that reflects real-world industry standards.
You'll work collaboratively with Lecturers and other members of the Construction team to ensure sessions are delivered effectively and that our learners receive the right level of support. Whether you're already experienced in teaching or looking to move from industry into education, you'll be provided with training and ongoing professional development to help you succeed in your role.

About You
You'll be an experienced and passionate trades professional with a solid background in carpentry and joinery. You'll bring practical, hands-on expertise to the role, with skills that may include first and second fix work, bench joinery, and interpreting construction drawings. Your experience in the trade will allow you to demonstrate techniques with confidence, helping our learners understand what it takes to work safely and effectively in the construction industry.
You'll have a natural ability to mentor and inspire others. You'll take pride in passing on your knowledge, supporting our learners at different skill levels, and helping them build confidence in their abilities. Your communication skills and approachable nature will make it easy for our students to learn from you, and you'll always be ready to offer encouragement and constructive feedback.
You'll understand the importance of maintaining a safe, well-organised workshop that mirrors real-world working conditions. You'll always promote safe working practices, ensuring learners take responsibility for their tools, equipment, and surroundings.
Collaboration will come naturally to you, and you'll work closely with Lecturers and other members of the Construction team to deliver engaging and effective sessions. You'll be a team player who values shared goals and is committed to supporting the success of both learners and colleagues.

Required
Relevant Level 3 qualification
Level 4 teaching qualification e.g. CTLLS (or willingness to work towards one).
Level 2/GCSE maths and English qualifications (C or above)
Minimum of 3 years' experience within the construction industry
