THE PROJECT
St Giles Trust has been commissioned by Cranstoun to support their Custody Arrest Referral Service by engaging women after their release from police custody. The aim is to reduce the risk of continued substance use and prevent further involvement in the Criminal Justice System (CJS). The project focuses on improving access to drug and alcohol treatment, as well as broader wraparound support, to break the cycle of addiction, offending, and police intervention. Support will be delivered through an intensive 4-6-week casework programme, led by a female caseworker with lived experience.
This personalised, one-to-one support will focus on key resettlement pathways and address the complex needs of women at risk. By building trust and providing practical, trauma-informed support, the service will link women with local specialist services and their wider communities. The approach is holistic and complements existing provision, with a strong emphasis on harm reduction, early intervention, and diversion from criminal justice. The service will work in close partnership with treatment providers, housing, health, and rehabilitation services to build a robust support network and improve long-term outcomes for women involved.
We follow a Trauma-Informed responsive delivery model, supporting women who have highly complex & interlinked needs to reduce and desist from future potential offending/contact with police and experiencing drug and/or alcohol addiction. We are looking for an experienced caseworker who will be able to identify additional and specialist learning needs and identify barriers within our female client groups. The Caseworker should be able to address and support across the pathways listed below:
Drugs and alcohol
Accommodation
ETE
Health (including mental health)
FBD
