Casual Event Host – Shy Social Club (edinburgh)

Edinburgh, SCT, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

About Shy Social Club

Shy Social Club is a new and growing social events community in Edinburgh.

Our mission is to make socialising feel easier, calmer, and more welcoming -- especially for people who feel shy, anxious, or socially overwhelmed in traditional social spaces.

We run relaxed events with lots of thoughtful touches -- from soft lighting and quiet music to offering to meet guests outside so they don't have to walk in alone.

All of the venue organisation, hiring, setup and planning is taken care of in advance by us -- so when you arrive to host, the space will already be prepared and ready for the event to run smoothly.

We are now looking for a friendly, calm Event Host to help us at our next event on Saturday 5th July, with more work likely to follow if the fit is right.

About the role:

You will be the welcoming face of Shy Social Club during the event -- helping set the calm tone we are known for, supporting guests throughout, and handling any small needs that arise on the day.

You won't need to organise the venue or logistics -- that will all be done in advance. Your focus will be on creating a warm, relaxed environment for our guests on the night.

You may also sometimes be asked to help with light sales during events (such as offering pin badges, accessories or other small items for purchase). This will always be done in a friendly, no-pressure way -- simply letting guests know items are available if they are interested.

As a thank you, you will also receive the same items and perks included in the event ticket -- such as the free tote bag, sweet treat, and any included activity materials -- as part of your experience on the night. These are provided in addition to your hourly pay.

If the first event goes well, we hope to run more regular events -- probably weekly -- mostly on evenings and weekends.

Future work will be offered based on business needs and how well we work together.

This is casual, event-based freelance work. You will be paid per event by invoice. There are no guaranteed hours.

What you'll do at each event:

Welcome guests and create a warm, calm atmosphere Offer to meet guests outside and walk them in if they would like Help maintain the gentle tone of the event -- no shouting or forced mingling Be available on WhatsApp during the event to discreetly support any guests who may need a little extra help or reassurance Handle occasional light sales during events (such as offering pin badges or tote bags for sale -- always in a gentle, friendly way) Communicate with the organiser (the founder) and the venue if anything comes up during the event Help ensure the space remains safe, inclusive, and welcoming throughout

Before the event:

If shortlisted, you'll be invited to a short 15-minute chat with the founder If selected, you'll attend a brief pre-event meeting to go through what will be expected on the day

Who we are looking for:

Warm, calm, and approachable Comfortable being the main point of contact at an event -- in a gentle and friendly way Happy to use WhatsApp and be responsive to guests during the event Comfortable engaging in occasional light sales (no pushy selling -- just offering items in a friendly way if guests are interested) Organised and reliable -- able to arrive early and stay engaged throughout Available to work occasional evening and weekend events (with the chance of more regular work if things go well)

Pay:

14 per hour (first event -- may be reviewed for future events) Typical event shift will be around 4 to 5 hours You will be paid by invoice after the event You will also receive the same items and perks included in the guest ticket for the event (such as a free tote bag, sweet treat, and any activity materials) as part of your experience on the night

How to apply:

Please send your CV and a short message explaining why you would be a good fit for Shy Social Club.
