CACHE Certificate in Early Years Care and Education (Welsh medium) NVQ Level 2 in Early Years Care and Education / Children's Care, Learning and Development Level 2 Certificate in Children's Care, Learning and Development Any other relevant qualification or Willingness to work towards level 2 or is in process of gaining the above qualification.

Purpose of the post



Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do. Assist the Nursery's leaders and Manager to transfer care of a high standard for each child who attends Plas Pawb nursery, ensuring that their physical, emotional, social, intelligent, creative and developmental needs are met.

Responsibility for functions

Main duties



Contribute to planning and implementing appropriate programmes of activities for the children in cooperation with the Nursery Manager, Nursery leaders and other staff, including students. Activity programmes will be presented through the medium of Welsh. Assist the Nursery leader to transfer a high standard of care, ensuring that the physical, emotional, social, intelligent, creative and developmental needs of the children are met. Possess a full understanding of the Nursery's record-keeping system and contribute to observing and recording each child's individual development using the key worker system. Work side by side with the Manager and staff to ensure provision with a range of equipment and displays that stimulate both inside and outdoors, that are relevant to the ages and needs of the children. Ensure that play areas, inside or outdoors, are safe, happy and caring environments that encourage children to play freely. Assist to provide a high quality service that meets with the needs of each child who attends the nursery, ensuring that due consideration is given to nation, culture, race, religion, language and disability. Contact parents/carers and encourage participation in their child's placement at the nursery and their child's development. Respect and follow the arrangements for infants and small children who attend the nursery as outlined by their parents/carers. Assist the service to collect children from school. Assist with the provision of a healthy balanced diet for each child who attends the nursery to include food preparation, assist with feeding, ensure that meal times are social events and clear-up following meals. Follow all policies and procedures noted by Gwynedd Council and Plas Pawb Nursery. Be familiar with following the National Minimum Standards for full daycare as required by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). Co-responsibility for protecting and promoting each child's welfare at the nursery, in accordance with the All Wales Child Protection Guidelines. Possess operational knowledge of the principles and objectives of the Flying Start Project. Foster good working relations and an understanding of external agencies and other professionals who are involved in the development and care of individual children. Take responsibility for continuous personal development by attending relevant training courses and possess the latest information regarding legislation and regulations relevant to the post. The post-holder will be expected to work towards gaining a nationally recognised occupational qualification e.g. NVQ 2/3. Attend weekly team meetings and take part in some individual monthly meetings and annual evaluations with the Nursery Manager or Leader. Assist in the daily domestic management of the nursery, including ensuring that the nursery is kept secure, safe and clean at all times. Ensure that specific childcare tasks are undertaken to the expected standards, to include assisting the children with feeding, changing their clothes and toileting, to include nappy changing; maintain high standards of hygiene at all times; comfort and give warmth to a sick child; and inform of any signs of illness or injury, or concerns regarding abuse. Responsibility for self-development. Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council's Health and Safety Policy. Operate within the Council's policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality. Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council's information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation. Commitment to reducing the Council's carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council's Carbon Footprint. Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job. Responsibility to report any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused.
