Category Buyer - Aquaculture, Engineering, Abrasives, Lifting, Oils & PPE
Inverness | Full Time | Procurement & Supply Chain
Are you an experienced Buyer looking to take ownership of diverse, technical product ranges that play a critical role in supporting industrial, commercial, and marine sectors?
We're looking for a confident and commercially aware Category Buyer to join our central procurement team in Inverness. You'll be responsible for managing stock across a wide and varied portfolio -- including Aquaculture, Engineering components, Abrasives, Lifting Equipment, Oils, and PPE -- ensuring availability, accuracy, and performance across the board.
You'll work closely with suppliers, internal sales teams, and key account managers to ensure we continue to deliver on service, quality, and cost.
What you'll be doing:
Using your stock control and system knowledge to monitor demand and place timely, accurate orders
Managing relationships with suppliers to ensure pricing and delivery terms are met
Reviewing acknowledgements and lead times to ensure fulfilment targets are achieved
Keeping pricing, stock levels, and product data up to date and accurate across all categories
Advising sales and customer service teams on availability, alternatives, and delivery times
Communicating any additional service costs clearly (e.g. freight, packaging, surcharges)
Collaborating with colleagues across departments to resolve queries and support product planning
What you'll bring:
Demonstrable experience as a Buyer, ideally within technical or trade-based product categories
Strong analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail and confidence working with data
Experience of Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) and the ability to apply this in a live stock environment
Excellent communication, organisational, and IT skills
Ability to work well both independently and as part of a cross-functional team
Prior knowledge of any of the product categories (Aquaculture, Engineering, PPE, etc.) would be a distinct advantage -- but full training will be provided
How success will be measured:
Stock availability and turnover: Maintaining availability targets without overstocking
Supplier performance: Deliveries arriving in full and on time with minimal intervention
System accuracy: Clean, up-to-date pricing and product data
Cross-team support: Positive feedback from internal stakeholders and minimal query resolution delays
Proactive planning: Early identification of demand trends or potential supply issues
This is an excellent opportunity to take on a key buying role within a high-performing team and make a real impact across multiple business-critical product areas.
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be able to commute to our Inverness office, as this is a full-time office-based role.
