Catering Assistant
Location: The Cherwell Hospital, Banbury
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Full-time
Salary: Depending on experience + Benefits
Summary:
The Cherwell Hospital is located in Banbury, Oxfordshire. The hospital has been designed to combine an exceptional standard of patient accommodation with the technical equipment and facilities that modern medicine demands. This Hospital has a 32-bed inpatient unit, consisting of single or twin rooms, a surgical day case facility and a new Ophthalmic Suite. The Hospital is equipped to undertake a large range of procedures, treatments and investigations covering a number of specialties from Orthopaedics to Ophthalmology.
The role:
The Cherwell Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Catering Assistant to join our Hospitality Team. As a Catering Assistant you will be part of a team who ensure the preparation and delivery of a food and beverage service to patients.
The Catering Assistant will be responsible for the service of all food and drink to the patients on the wards including managing dietary requirements. Additional tasks will consist of the washing of cutlery & dishes, replenishing our hot drinks machines and explaining the daily menus across all meals.
You will be part of a team of Catering Assistants who are fundamental in ensuring that all work is carried out in a hygienic and methodical manner and that standards of cleanliness throughout the hospital are in line with our policies.
Duties include:

  • Deliver meals and beverages to patients in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ensure patients dietary needs and preferences are met, including any special dietary restrictions.
  • Provide assistance to patients with menu choices and help them with meal requests.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of food service areas within the ward.
  • Assist with the collection and disposal of food trays after meals.
  • Communicate any concerns or changes in patients conditions to nursing staff.
  • Help create a positive, comfortable environment for patients by offering friendly and compassionate service.
  • Ensure that patient rooms are kept tidy and assist with other general tasks as needed.
What you'll bring with you:
  • Ideally you will have Catering Assistant experience, but training will be given.
  • Previous experience of a customer facing role
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work on your own as well as in a team.
  • Must have a positive and flexible approach
  • Strong communication skills
