Ashington Joint Welfare Scheme is a registered charity operating the Hirst Welfare Centre, a busy community venue in Ashington. We deliver a wide range of activities and services to support local residents of all ages. We're looking for a Catering Assistant to join our small and friendly team to help deliver a welcoming and efficient catering service.
About the Role
This is a hands-on role supporting the catering operation at the Centre. You'll help with food preparation, serve food and drinks, keep the kitchen and cafe areas clean and safe, and provide a friendly service to customers, including visitors attending events and regular activities.
Main Duties
Prepare food under the direction of the Catering Supervisor
Serve meals and drinks to nursery, staff, visitors and event attendees
Maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen and cafe environment
Set up and clear tables, counters and serving areas
Process cash/card payments and assist with basic till use
Wash dishes and clean kitchen equipment
Support the catering team during community events, including setup and pack-down
Monitor supplies and report shortages or issues to the supervisor
Follow all food safety, hygiene, and health and safety procedures
What We're Looking For
Food Hygiene Level 2 (training can be offered)
Previous catering or customer service experience is an advantage
Friendly, reliable and willing to work as part of a team
Good communication skills and a positive attitude
Flexible with working hours including occasional evenings/weekends
DBS check will be required - paid for by AJWS
What We Offer
